TV-Series
Description
Daidoji, also known as Doji in some adaptations, is a primary antagonist who appears throughout the Beyblade: Metal Fusion series and its sequels. He is a tall, slender man who initially presents himself as a wealthy and sophisticated businessman, typically dressed in a sharp purple suit with a red tie and sporting a pair of hexagonal glasses. A notable part of his appearance is a single golden streak in his dark hair, which he is often seen grooming with a comb he keeps in his chest pocket. This meticulously curated image of intelligence and class is a deliberate facade for his deeply cruel and manipulative nature.
As the former leader of the organization Dark Nebula, Daidoji is driven by an insatiable ambition for power and world domination. His primary goal is to harness the terrifying force of the Forbidden Bey, Lightning L-Drago. To this end, he locates the bey in Koma Village and aids the blader Ryuga in stealing it, setting the series' core conflict in motion. He is a master strategist and manipulator, preferring to operate from the shadows rather than engage in direct confrontation. He speaks to everyone, from his enemies to his own subordinates, in a consistently polite and condescending tone, frequently using terms like "my friend" in a way that drips with arrogance. He views almost everyone as a tool to be used and discarded, including the powerful bladers he recruits.
In terms of personality, Daidoji rarely shows genuine emotion or seriousness, even when facing strong opponents like Gingka Hagane. He enjoys psychological games and has a talent for agitating others to achieve his goals, as demonstrated when he provokes the hot-headed blader Kyoya into a bet that costs the latter his freedom. He is exceptionally cruel, showing no concern for the well-being of those who fail him, often feeding their spinning top's power to Lightning L-Drago as punishment. Despite these cold traits, he has a peculiar and conflicted obsession with cacti, claiming to hate them because their prickly nature prevents him from hugging them, revealing a deeper theme of longing for things he cannot possess.
Daidoji's role in the story is that of a mastermind who orchestrates major events from behind the scenes. He arranges the Battle Bladers tournament specifically to gather powerful bladers and feed their energy to Ryuga and L-Drago. His key relationship is with Ryuga, whom he initially treats as a partner in his quest for domination. However, this alliance is purely transactional, as Daidoji ultimately sees Ryuga as a pawn. This relationship dramatically backfires when Ryuga, consumed by L-Drago's dark power, turns on Daidoji and drains most of his life energy, leaving him horrifically injured and near death.
This event marks a significant turning point in his development. No longer the pristine executive, he survives but is physically broken, requiring an artificial leg and a walking cane. He adopts a more worn and aged appearance, including a scar over one eye, and becomes even more bitter and determined. Refusing to give up on his ambitions, he later resurfaces to find the god of destruction, Rago, and bring him to the organization Hades Inc. His obsession shifts from merely ruling the world to exacting a terrible revenge on those he blames for his downfall. His resilience is so great that he eventually returns in a later series as a being of light energy stored within a computer system, manifesting as a hologram and still masterminding evil plots under a revived organization called Dark Nebula Again.
As a blader, Daidoji is highly skilled and his abilities should not be underestimated. His beyblade is Dark Wolf DF145 FS, a balance-type top known for its vicious and wolf-like battle style. His signature special move is the Darkness Howling Blazer, a powerful attack that he used to decisively defeat Kyoya early in the series, showcasing his raw power when he chooses to enter a battle himself. While he prefers manipulation, his proficiency with his own bey makes him a formidable direct opponent as well.
