TV-Series
Description
Marika is a ten-year-old girl who dresses in gothic lolita fashion and serves as the main protagonist of the series. She initially appears calm and cute but also possesses a feisty streak. Her defining trait is a strong aversion to science: the mere mention of a scientific topic causes her to fall asleep, and she becomes easily confused by even simple equations. One day, after dozing off on a train, she discovers that her stuffed animal, Pet, has come to life, and she finds herself transported to the strange, whimsical town of Galihabara. There, she learns that she cannot leave until she genuinely comes to like science—a prospect she finds deeply frustrating and discouraging. Despite her reluctance, Marika begins to interact with famous historical scientists who reside in the town, including Galileo Galilei, Marie Curie, Isaac Newton, and others. Through these encounters and the comedic, often food-related situations that arise, she starts to develop a tentative interest in scientific concepts. Marika is also a glutton, and scientific explanations are frequently woven into her meals. Over the course of the first season, her resistance slowly softens, and by the end she succeeds in escaping Galihabara. In the second season, Marie & Gali ver. 2.0, she has returned to her normal life but is summoned back by Galileo to help a new character, Norika, overcome her own dislike of science, now acting as a mentor figure. Marika’s key relationship is with her stuffed animal Pet, who accompanies her, and with Galileo, who serves as her primary guide. Her development centers on moving from a complete rejection of science to a growing appreciation for it, though she remains playful and easily overwhelmed by complex ideas. Notable abilities include her knack for inadvertently sparking scientific demonstrations through her everyday activities, especially eating, and her eventual capacity to use simple science to solve practical problems.
