Description
Utano Shiratori stood as the sole protector of Nagano Prefecture's Suwa region during the first Vertex invasion in July 2015. She was the very first Hero created, existing before any other known Hero teams. Prior to the attack, she lived as an ordinary middle school student with a deep passion for agriculture, dreaming of becoming a "Farm King" or even a "Farm Emperor." Her vision focused on transforming Suwa into a self-sustaining agricultural paradise.

After the Vertex assault, a protective barrier materialized around Lake Suwa. Utano awakened as a Hero and, with her miko Fujimori Mito, received orders from Shikoku's Taisha organization to defend the region. Initially, displaced and despairing Suwa residents doubted her abilities due to her youth. Yet Utano tirelessly urged resilience, invoking humanity's history of recovery from disasters. She started farming initiatives and personally defended the barrier against Vertex incursions, risking herself to rescue survivors beyond its safety. Her unshakeable optimism and actions—cultivating fields, organizing fishing expeditions, and battling Vertexes—steadily inspired the community. Within a year, residents joined her efforts, forging Suwa into a functioning sanctuary where hope displaced despair. Her mantra, "No matter what hardships may come our way, humanity will always get back on its feet," became the bedrock belief for Suwa's survivors.

Utano displayed a carefree and optimistic nature, often peppering her speech with broken English phrases. Her dedication to farming bordered on obsession; she suffered "withdrawals" without soil contact and frequently chanted vegetable names. She hid her fears during combat to bolster others and faced her duties without regret. Her closest bond was with Fujimori Mito, her miko, affectionately nicknamed "Mii-chan." Mito provided tactical support during attacks and emotional stability, though she harbored envy over Utano's deepening friendship with Shikoku's Hero, Nogi Wakaba. Utano and Wakaba maintained a long-distance relationship, discussing Vertex threats and debating culinary preferences like soba versus udon. Wakaba deeply admired Utano's resolve and was shattered by her eventual fate.

Unlike later Heroes, Utano did not transform via a phone application. She manually donned her bright yellow-green Hero outfit, complete with a wisteria flower clip, stored at Suwa Taisha's kagura-den. Her weapon, Fujizuru, was a divine whip imbued with the spiritual power of Suwa's guardian deity, echoing the deity's legendary wisteria vine. She wielded it with enhanced agility against Vertexes, though her solo status left her vulnerable to being overwhelmed. In some iterations, a fairy named Satori assisted her, though its abilities remained unspecified. Her combat style prioritized protecting the barrier and evacuating civilians during Vertex raids.

Utano's story ended tragically during a Vertex assault. After rallying Suwa's residents to evacuate, she engaged the enemy alongside Mito. Despite her valor, she was overpowered and killed in action. Her death marked the fall of Nagano, leaving Shikoku as humanity's last refuge. The Taisha later disclosed her role was intended to delay the Vertexes until Shikoku's defenses were prepared. In non-canonical appearances like *Yuki Yuna is a Hero: Churutto!*, Utano was depicted among summoned Heroes from across eras, though these narratives did not alter her established fate or character development.
