Klan Klang is a Meltrandi, a female member of the giant Zentradi race, living aboard the Macross Frontier colonial fleet. She serves as the captain of Strategic Military Services’ all-female Pixie Squadron, piloting a custom red Queadluun-Rea variable fighter. Due to a genetic defect, her appearance changes dramatically depending on her size: when micronized to interact with humans she takes the form of a young girl with long blue hair and pointed ears, while in her natural macronized state she is a fully grown woman with a mature figure. This contrast defines much of her public persona, as she often appears childlike and emotive in her small form but is entirely serious and professional when piloting. Klan’s personality is marked by deep loyalty and a strong sense of duty, but also by a romantic yearning she struggles to express. Her most important relationship is with Mikhail Blanc, a fellow SMS pilot and her childhood friend. She has harbored feelings for him for years, but he tends to tease her about her split appearance, and she seldom finds the courage to confess. In the heat of battle during a Vajra attack, she finally reveals her love, only to watch helplessly as Mikhail sacrifices himself to protect her. This loss is a turning point for Klan; she takes up his custom VF-25G sniper rifle, inheriting his role as a sniper and channeling her grief into fierce determination. She becomes more open with her emotions afterward, even urging Alto Saotome to be honest about his own feelings. Throughout the events of Macross Frontier: The False Songstress, Klan participates in major combat operations, using her Queadluun-Rea’s firepower and later Mikhail’s rifle with deadly accuracy. She is also one of the few SMS personnel who remain on the Frontier when the Macross Quarter temporarily departs, trusting that the ship will return. Her abilities as a pilot are exceptional, and her adaptability allows her to switch between heavy assault and precision sniping as needed. Klan’s journey is one of unfulfilled love, personal loss, and the resolve to continue fighting for those she cares about.
