Description
Hanz, known in the original Japanese version as Hanzou Gouda, is a supporting character first introduced in the original Danball Senki anime and video game, which is known as LBX in English-localized versions. He is initially presented as a formidable rival and gang leader before evolving into a trusted ally.

Hanz is a middle school student and the acknowledged leader of the slums of Misora Town. His reputation precedes him, as he is known by the fearsome nickname The Destroyer of Hell, a title earned through his aggressive and powerful battling style that often left other players' LBX units completely wrecked. His background is that of a classic schoolyard boss, commanding the loyalty of his own group known as the Devas. Despite his intimidating title and rough methods, Hanz operates with a personal code that emphasizes strength and respect, making him more of an antihero than a true villain.

In terms of personality, Hanz is brash, hot-blooded, and exceedingly straightforward. He prefers to resolve problems with direct confrontation and raw power, rarely opting for subtlety or retreat. His temper is quick to flare, yet it is balanced by a profound sense of loyalty and honor towards those he considers his friends and allies. He deeply admires skill and strength in others, which is most apparent in his devotion to the legendary LBX player Lex. This admiration forms a core part of his identity, as he respects Lex immensely and becomes defensive of his honor when others question it. Hanz is also not afraid to show respect to worthy opponents, as seen when he begrudgingly acknowledges the protagonist Ban Yamano after their first battle.

Hanz's primary motivation is rooted in proving his own strength and supporting his crew and comrades. Unlike characters driven by grand mysteries or world-saving ideals, his goals are initially more territorial and personal, such as maintaining his status as the strongest in Misora and acquiring powerful LBX frames. As he becomes entangled in the larger conflict against the evil organization Innovator, his motivations expand to include fighting alongside his team and protecting his friends. His unwavering support for Lex, who plays a complex role in the series, also drives many of his actions.

Within the story's narrative, Hanz serves as an initial obstacle for Ban Yamano, challenging him early on to a decisive battle for the powerful Achilles frame. After this defeat, he transitions into a valuable member of the core team and later becomes affiliated with the anti-Innovator organization known as the Seekers. His role is that of the powerful, close-combat brawler who often charges into battle headfirst, creating openings for his more strategic teammates. He is also a participant in major tournaments like the Artemis, where he represents a significant force to be reckoned with.

His key relationships are central to his development. His dynamic with the protagonist Ban begins with intense rivalry but grows into mutual respect and friendship. He has a particularly important relationship with Lex, acting as a loyal subordinate and fervent believer in Lex's ideals and capabilities. Perhaps one of his most entertaining relationships is with Daiki Sendou, another talented player. The two share a classic sitcom arch-rivalry, constantly bickering and competing, yet they repeatedly find themselves forced to work together effectively, eventually forming a grudgingly effective tag-team.

Throughout the series, Hanz undergoes clear development. He starts as a bully-like figure who uses fear and destruction to dominate others. Through his battles and growing friendships with Ban and the group, he learns the value of teamwork and loyalty beyond his own gang. He matures from a simple territorial thug into a reliable hero who can put aside his pride for the sake of a larger mission. This growth is particularly evident when he sets up a safe haven for LBX players to hide from oppressive forces, showing a more protective and strategic side that lies beneath his hot-headed exterior.

In combat, Hanz is a powerhouse. His fighting style is aggressive and direct, forgoing any attempt at stealth. He pilots the mighty LBX Hakai-O, which is designed for maximum power and durability. Hakai-O is equipped with a powerful finishing move known as the Gaou Cannon, a chest-mounted blaster that delivers devastating damage, though its charging leaves the LBX momentarily vulnerable. Hanz's notable abilities as an operator lie in his raw strength and relentless forward pressure, making him a difficult opponent to overwhelm and a steadfast ally on the front lines.
