Description
Hanzou Gouda is a character from the LBX anime series who begins as an antagonist before becoming a steadfast ally. Introduced as a third-year student at Misora Middle School, he is the leader of a gang that rules over the school's slum area. His appearance is distinctive, reflecting his role as a bancho, or gang leader, with a traditional uniform consisting of a long-tailed jersey and wooden sandals. He is almost always seen carrying a wooden sword, which has become his personal symbol. His hair and eyes share a deep teal color, giving him a unique and memorable look.
Known by the fearsome nickname The Destroyer of Hell, Hanzou has a reputation for being temperamental and for destroying the LBXs of his opponents in battle. This reputation stems from his straightforward and hot-blooded personality. He prefers to settle problems with his fists and faces his opponents directly in battle rather than using stealth or tactics. Despite his aggressive demeanor, he is deeply loyal to his friends and crew, who all call him leader, and he commands their respect and trust. Initially, Hanzou acts as a subordinate to a powerful LBX player known as Lex, whom he genuinely admires for his skills. Following orders from Lex, he steals an armor frame and confronts the main protagonist, Ban Yamano, and his friends. However, this was secretly a test to see if Ban was capable of protecting a vital component. Hanzou had already been recruited by Lex into an anti-terrorist organization called the Seekers, and he was working to stop a shadowy group known as the Innovators. After losing to Ban, he transitions from a rival to a key member of the team, fighting alongside them in major conflicts and tournaments like the Artemis and the Akihabara Kingdom.
Hanzou's primary motivation is his love for battle and his search for powerful opponents. He enjoys the thrill of a good fight, and his straightforward nature means he tackles every challenge head-on. As the story progresses in the sequel series LBX W, his motivations grow to include a desire to protect the freedom to enjoy LBX battles, as he fights against the Detector organization that seeks to control the sport. At one point, he is captured and enslaved by this organization, forced to use a customized LBX called Hakai-O Dogma to guard their facilities. His allies ultimately rescue him, and he returns to help them in the final battles.
