Description
Mikono Suzushiro is a central female character from the anime series Aquarion Evol, who also appears in the crossover original video animation Sōsei no Aquarion Love. She belongs to the Suzushiro family, a lineage renowned for producing individuals with Element powers, yet she herself is initially believed to lack any such ability. This discrepancy has been a source of deep personal insecurity since childhood, causing her to be shy, hesitant, and lacking in self-confidence, though her underlying nature is bright and charming. She carries a small, mysterious creature named Shushu, which she keeps hidden in her hair and insists is a cat.
Her life changes when she meets Amata Sora and, during an attack by the Abductors from Altair, she ends up aboard the Aquarion alongside him. This event leads her to Neo DEAVA, where she becomes part of the Element team. Over the course of the story, Mikono struggles with her perceived uselessness and a tendency toward jealousy, but she gradually grows more assertive through her bonds with Amata and her fellow Elements. She later discovers that she possesses a unique Element power called the Connecting Power, which allows her to amplify and link the abilities of other Elements, making her a vital catalyst for Aquarion’s performance. This ability was previously undetectable because it only activates in the presence of multiple other Elements, and it also mitigates the physical toll of piloting for sensitive individuals.
Mikono’s role in the story is that of the emotional heart of the group, often providing cohesion and support. Her key relationships include a romantic bond with Amata Sora, which drives much of the series emotional arc, and a protective yet complicated relationship with her elder brother Cayenne Suzushiro. She also forms close friendships with other female characters such as Zessica Wong and MIX, and her presence helps resolve conflicts among the team. Her development is marked by moving from self-doubt to embracing her worth as an Element and as a person.
In Sōsei no Aquarion Love, Mikono appears alongside other characters from Aquarion Evol and the original Sōsei no Aquarion, participating in a new story that bridges multiple dimensions. Her abilities remain the same, and she continues to serve as a connector both literally and figuratively. Notably, she is revealed to be a reincarnation of both Silvia de Alisia and Celiane from the ancient past, linking the mythic history of the Aquarion universe to her present-day identity.
