Brina Palencia

Description
Brina Palencia is an American voice actress and director, widely recognized for her extensive work in English dubs of Japanese anime series and in video games. Born Brina Michelle Palencia on February 13, 1984, in Oklahoma, she is of Honduran descent and spent part of her childhood in both Honduras and the United States, making her fluent in English and Spanish. Her interest in voice acting was influenced by watching anime like Dragon Ball while she was a student. She graduated from Weatherford High School in 2002 and went on to study music at the University of North Texas, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2006. Following her graduation, she began her career at Funimation (now Crunchyroll), quickly establishing herself as a prominent figure in the industry.

Palencia's career is marked by a remarkable vocal range, allowing her to portray a wide spectrum of characters, from young boys and teenagers to adult women. She gained early recognition for roles such as the tragic Nina Tucker in the first Fullmetal Alchemist series and the vengeful Ai Enma in Hell Girl. She is perhaps best known for her long-running role as the endearing reindeer doctor Tony Tony Chopper in the massively popular series One Piece, a character she has voiced in numerous episodes, films, and specials including One Piece Stampede and One Piece 3D2Y. Another signature role is the cunning young earl Ciel Phantomhive in the Black Butler series, a part she has played across multiple seasons and films like Book of Murder and Book of the Atlantic. Her versatility is further showcased through roles like the obsessive Yuno Gasai in Mirai Nikki Redial, the rain-loving Juvia Loxar in Fairy Tail, and the wise and witty wolf deity Holo in Spice and Wolf. She also demonstrated her ability to voice male characters, most notably as the short but impactful hero Minoru Mineta in My Hero Academia and its film adaptations, as well as Hideyoshi Kinoshita in Baka and Test - Summon the Beasts, a role that often blurs gender lines.

Beyond anime, Palencia has lent her voice to a vast array of characters in video games, with one of her most iconic performances being the raunchy and energetic Mad Moxxi in the popular Borderlands series. Her filmography also includes roles in animated films such as Expelled from Paradise, King of Thorn, and Appleseed Alpha. In addition to her voice work, she has appeared on-screen in live-action television series, including a role as Ana in the acclaimed series The Walking Dead and as Sophia in the CW science fiction drama Star-Crossed. Palencia's contributions to the industry also extend behind the microphone, where she has worked as a voice director. Throughout her career, she has maintained frequent collaborations with other notable voice actors based in Texas, such as J. Michael Tatum, Luci Christian, and Monica Rial, and has worked consistently with Funimation's in-house talent pool.
