TV-Series
Description
Akira Souya is a Dragonaut affiliated with the ISDA, specifically assigned to the Lindworm Unit. As a Dragonaut, she is partnered with a dragon named Machina, with whom she performs a Resonance to fight. Akira has an appearance typical of a teenage girl, characterized by short, burgundy-colored hair and purple eyes.
Akira has a lively and somewhat light-hearted personality, though she often finds herself in a complex emotional position regarding her own role. Her relationship with her dragon partner, Machina, is central to her character. Machina was created to embody Akira's personal image of an ideal woman, making her the exact opposite of Akira in many ways. This leads Akira to initially feel a mixture of fear, jealousy, and inferiority towards Machina, particularly concerning Machina's more mature and feminine figure. Despite these insecurities, Akira quickly grows fond of Machina, who acts as a calm and innocent older sister figure to her.
However, Akira remains hesitant about fully embracing her bond with Machina, as she struggles with the concept of loving a dragon. Her perspective begins to change when she observes the relationship between Jin Kamishina and his dragon partner, Toa. Seeing the depth of their connection helps Akira realize that the relationship between a human and a dragon can evolve into something more profound than a simple partnership or a tool for combat. This realization becomes a key motivation for her actions throughout the story. She grows to support Jin, eventually betraying her own unit to assist him, as she believes in the answer their relationship represents for her own questions. Despite this betrayal, she continues to regard the other members of the Lindworm Unit as her comrades and does not hesitate to help them when they are in danger.
Akira's journey ends tragically when she is killed by Garnet MacLaine during the conflict on Mars. Her death causes Machina to lose control and go on a rampage. Ultimately, both Akira and Machina are crystallized and fall into the depths of Mars. Later, their minds and bodies are merged with the entity Thanatos, becoming part of its inner personality. At the conclusion of the series, after Thanatos leaves Earth in peace, the spirits of Akira and Machina are seen together, smiling as a final affirmation that humans and dragons can coexist.
