Description
Nae Tennōji is a supporting character in Steins;Gate: The Movie - Load Region of Déjà Vu, which takes place one year after the true ending of the original series. She is the only daughter of Yuugo Tennōji, the owner of the Braun Tube Workshop, and attends a private elementary school as a sixth grader. She was born on November 9, 1998, and is eleven years old during the events of the film.
Her background is defined by the loss of her mother, Tsuzuri Imamiya, who died before the story begins, leaving Nae to live alone with her father. She frequently visits the CRT TV Workshop after school and has become a familiar presence around the Future Gadget Laboratory members. Despite her young age, she is capable of simple cooking and can handle basic repairs on cathode-ray tube televisions, having learned by helping her father.
In terms of personality, Nae is a timid and reserved child who tends to be frightened by Rintaro Okabe, especially when he adopts his Hououin Kyouma persona, and also by Itaru Hashida. However, she is comfortable around the other lab members, particularly Mayuri Shiina, whom she regards as an older sister figure and frequently hugs when they meet. She is generally docile and quiet, though she has a warm side that emerges with people she trusts.
Her motivations in the movie are consistent with her everyday life as a child living in the Steins Gate worldline. She is not driven by any larger agenda but rather participates in the lab members' activities as a peripheral member of their social circle. She loves her father deeply and is deeply attached to him, though she sometimes reacts with exasperation to his more excessive behavior.
In the story of the film, Nae appears during a barbecue party held to welcome Kurisu Makise back to Japan. In a moment of innocent error, she mistakes real beer that her father brought for non-alcoholic beer and serves it to Kurisu, inadvertently causing Kurisu to become intoxicated and leading to a memorable comedic sequence. More significantly, later in the film, when Okabe's Reading Steiner begins to malfunction and he experiences fragments of memories from other worldlines, he briefly perceives the moment when Nae, in an alternate timeline, has time-leaped over a thousand times to exact revenge on Moeka Kiryu. This glimpse serves as a reminder of the darker fates that could have occurred in different worldlines and highlights the contrast with the peaceful reality of the Steins Gate worldline.
Her key relationships include her father, whom she adores and who dotes on her in return. She shares a sisterly bond with Mayuri, who treats her with warmth and affection. With Okabe, her relationship is more distant, as his eccentric personality unsettles her, but she does not harbor any ill will toward him in the film's timeline. She is also acquainted with the other lab members, though she keeps some distance from those she finds intimidating.
Regarding her development, Nae remains largely consistent throughout the movie, functioning as a supporting figure who underscores the normalcy and peace of the Steins Gate worldline. Her presence, along with the fact that she exists unharmed and unburdened by tragedy, serves to illustrate what Okabe fought to preserve. The brief flash of her darker alternate self emphasizes the cost of what was avoided without requiring her to undergo a personal arc in the film itself.
Notable abilities include her competence in basic household tasks and her latent skill at fighting games, which is hinted at even at her young age and which becomes more pronounced in later entries of the Science Adventure series. She is also capable of minor television repairs, reflecting her exposure to her father's workshop. In the movie, however, these abilities are not prominently featured, as her role is primarily social and atmospheric rather than action-oriented.
