Description
Hina is the central figure of her story, a young girl with immense psychic powers who arrives unexpectedly in the modern world. Her exact origins are tied to an advanced civilization, one with technology that allows for interdimensional travel. Within her home dimension, her exceptional psychokinetic talents were exploited by the adult population, who treated her merely as a tool or a weapon. Her arrival in a new world begins when her transport capsule materializes in the apartment of a yakuza member named Yoshifumi Nitta. This event marks the start of her new, relatively normal life as she begins cohabitating with him.

In terms of personality, Hina is defined by a stark contrast between her immense power and her general disposition. She very rarely displays emotions, often maintaining an aloof and stoic expression. Despite her formidable abilities, she is profoundly apathetic and lazy, showing little interest in anything beyond eating and sleeping. She has a particular fondness for ikura, or salmon roe. Her behavior can be infuriating to live with, as she often comes off as rude and ungrateful, seemingly oblivious to social norms and lacking in common sense. This self-centered and air-headed nature can lead to exasperation, but it is tempered by an unwavering self-confidence that leads her to approach problems in unorthodox ways. While these solutions may seem hare-brained, they have a tendency to ultimately work out.

Her motivations are simple and largely selfish, especially early on. She focuses primarily on securing food, comfort, and leisure, often using her powers to threaten Nitta into compliance. However, as she becomes more integrated into her new life, her motivations subtly shift. She begins to find value in her relatively peaceful existence, attending school and experiencing a familial dynamic. While still primarily driven by her own desires, she develops a genuine, if understated, affection for Nitta and a sense of connection to the small community that forms around her.

Within the narrative, Hina serves as the primary catalyst, her sudden appearance and subsequent actions driving much of the plot. Her cohabitation with Nitta forms the core of the story, creating a makeshift father-daughter relationship that is both dysfunctional and heartfelt. Her presence also inadvertently draws other psychics, like her counterpart Anzu, into this new world, forcing them to adapt as well. While Nitta tries to fulfill the role of a responsible guardian, it is often Hina’s own lazy and selfish whims that lead to the series’ most significant misadventures and, ironically, to positive changes for those around her.

Her key relationships are central to her development. The most important is with Nitta, who is the first adult to treat her as more than just a tool. Initially, their relationship is based on convenience and mutual threat, but over time, it evolves into a genuine familial bond. Hina comes to appreciate Nitta as a father figure, even if she rarely shows it openly. She also has a significant dynamic with Anzu, a fellow psychic who initially arrives to challenge her. Where Anzu is earnest and hardworking, Hina is lazy, yet their contrasting personalities create a unique rivalry and friendship. Other relationships, such as with her ordinary classmate Hitomi and other psychics like Mao, further expand her world and influence her gradual maturation.

Hina’s character development is subtle but clear over the course of the story. She transitions from a completely self-centered and emotionally detached being to someone who shows more kindness and consideration for others. She begins to take some initiative, worries about her friends, and even takes on part-time jobs. In high school, she works as a waitress and later as a stage illusionist, using her powers to perform. Demonstrating further growth, she leads her friends in forming a band called Central Park II to reignite a former bandmate’s passion for music. Following her secondary education, she pursues higher learning with a focus on computer game design, showing she has developed ambitions beyond immediate gratification.

Her notable ability is powerful telekinesis, which she uses frequently and with great effect. She can manipulate objects and people with her mind, using this power to assist Nitta with his yakuza work, from clearing land to handling enemies. In her new life, she also finds more creative applications for her powers, incorporating them into her work as an illusionist. Her powers are depicted as being immense, capable of large-scale destruction, yet she typically uses them for mundane or comedic purposes, further highlighting the contrast between her potential and her personality.
