TV-Series
Description
Kazuhiro Mitogawa is a young boy with an pale, almost ethereal appearance characterized by his white hair and yellow eyes. He was once a member of the Supernatural Disaster Countermeasures Division, a government agency dedicated to combating spiritual threats. His appearance is deceptively innocent, often dressed in a simple vest, which belies the dangerous and manipulative nature he possesses.
Driven by a profound personal tragedy, Kazuhiro is overwhelmingly obsessed with the power of the sesshoseki, a fragment of the legendary killing stone that contains the essence of the nine-tailed fox, Kyuubi. His mother, who was an exorcist, was killed in action, and his singular, all-consuming goal is to harness the Kyuubi's immense power to resurrect her. It was this desperate wish that led him to the Vatican's library, where the malevolent spirit Lady Tamamo appeared to him. In exchange for power, Kazuhiro willingly became a minion of Lord Tamamo, the former mistress of the Kyuubi, an act that sets him on a path to become a primary catalyst for the tragic events that unfold.
Kazuhiro serves as a major antagonist and a manipulative instigator, directly responsible for the corruption and downfall of the exorcist Yomi Isayama. He is the one who provides Yomi with a fragment of the sesshoseki, granting her power while simultaneously poisoning her soul. When he later becomes displeased with Yomi for giving a portion of that power to her ally, Kensuke, he coldly retracts the stone from her. This action directly leads to Yomi's death and transformation, as the removal of the stone leaves her fatally weakened and consumed by the evil it contained. His role extends beyond this singular act; he is later seen participating in a coup within the secret organization Jugondo, acting as an underling to a woman named Setsuna. In a further extension of his powers, he manages to remove the souls of Kagura and Kensuke, transporting them to a strange spiritual dimension he calls the Tamamo Garden to meet Lady Tamamo.
Central to his character is his twisted relationship with his deceased mother, as his quest to revive her is the engine for every villainous act he commits. His other key relationships are purely transactional, viewing powerful individuals like Yomi as tools to be used and discarded. He also has a connection to Izuna, another exorcist motivated to avenge Yomi, though Kazuhiro meets his end not at Izuna's hands, but by those of his own resurrected mother, who kills him.
Kazuhiro possesses notable supernatural abilities distinct from typical exorcism techniques. He primarily wields a form of insect-based magic, summoning and controlling swarms of spectral bugs for attack and defense. However, his most formidable powers are intrinsically linked to the sesshoseki embedded in one of his eyes. This connection grants him incredible authority over the stones, including the ability to bestow them upon others, reclaim them, and even directly remove the souls from individuals who are in possession of them. His ultimate ambition goes beyond personal resurrection; he wants to shatter the secret veil that separates the mundane world from the world of spirits and exorcists. In a significant way, he achieves this partial goal, as the subsequent rampage of the Kyuubi becomes a global phenomenon, forcibly exposing the supernatural to the public eye.
