Description
Kahono is a priestess of the Seabed Temple, a location dedicated to the worship of the Sea God. She is the granddaughter of the temple's high priest, Gifso, and the younger sister of Kiato, with whom she shares a deep bond and exceptional combat coordination. Born and raised within this underwater sanctuary, she spent years practicing her magical arts alongside her brother as part of their religious duties.
Kahono is a girl of fifteen years with a slender build, red eyes, and dark red hair typically gathered into a long ponytail decorated with seashells. Her standard attire includes a white sleeveless dress made of scales, a red belt, and a gold chain necklace with a whale pendant. In her official role as a priestess, she wears a dolphin mask along with a white hooded robe and wide gold belt.
She possesses a tremendously cheery, energetic, and bubbly demeanor, often displaying a lively and supportive nature. Kahono is very friendly and outgoing, easily closing the distance with new acquaintances. She is notably confident, holding high beliefs that her personal dreams will come true. She finds the sound of waves relaxing and has an optimistic outlook that allows her to encourage others even in dangerous situations. Despite her sacred position, she has a practical side and is openly fond of money and treats like ice cream. Her primary motivation and dream is to leave the temple and become a singing and dancing idol, attracted to the profession for the potential money and the joy of performing.
Kahono plays a significant role as an ally to the main characters, particularly Noelle Silva. She first encounters Asta and Noelle on the beach of Raque while practicing her singing. Noticing Asta's fatigue, she heals him with a song, quickly befriending the pair. Recognizing Noelle's struggle to control her powerful water magic, Kahono acts as an impromptu coach. She advises Noelle to stop suppressing her mana and to find mental peace, helping her train over several nights alongside Asta. This guidance proves crucial in Noelle's development, leading to a breakthrough where Noelle successfully casts a powerful defensive spell after reflecting on happy memories with her squad.
Later, when the Black Bulls enter the Seabed Temple, Kahono confronts them as part of the temple's defenses, facing off against Noelle. Their fight is interrupted by the invasion of the Eye of the Midnight Sun, specifically the powerful villain Vetto. Kahono immediately joins forces with Noelle, Kiato, and Asta to fight the enemy. Demonstrating immense bravery, she and Kiato combine their magic to perform a powerful combo attack. However, Vetto brutally retaliates by crushing Kahono's throat, robbing her of her ability to sing and use her primary magic. Despite this grievous and nearly fatal injury, she remains conscious and focused, using the last of her strength to heal Asta before losing consciousness. Later, at the Star Awards Festival, Asta uses a special potion from the Witch Queen to heal her throat completely, restoring her voice and her dream.
Kahono's most important relationship is with Noelle Silva. She is portrayed as the first female friend Noelle makes who is her age and not a cousin. Kahono is incredibly supportive of Noelle, believing in her abilities and helping her gain confidence. After the battle, she thanks Noelle for protecting the temple and confirms her dream is still alive, solidifying their genuine friendship. She also shares a close bond with her brother Kiato, whom she yells at to get up during the fight against Vetto and whose foot is also crushed by the enemy. Her relationship with Asta is warm and friendly; she teases him and Noelle about their dynamic, going as far as suggesting a double date and hooking Asta's arm to try to make Noelle jealous.
Over the course of her appearance, Kahono develops from a seemingly opportunistic stranger who tries to charge for her healing into a selfless and courageous fighter. Her physical injury at Vetto's hands represents a temporary end to her dream, but her determination to encourage Noelle and heal Asta even while silenced shows significant growth in her character. Her recovery allows her to pursue her idol aspirations anew with a reinforced sense of purpose.
Kahono's notable abilities stem from her unique Song Magic, which she casts through singing and stores within her three-leaf clover grimoire. Her spells are diverse. For offense, she can use Destruction Beat to barrage enemies with destructive sound waves. For support, she can use a Mother Lullaby to sing targets to sleep, a Heal Lullaby to recover injuries with precision, and can even use her voice to whisper encouragement to a single person. She also possesses the ability to combine her Song Magic with her brother's Butoh Magic in a Union Magic technique for a powerful coordinated assault. Beyond her magical attributes, Kahono possesses a large amount of magic power on the level of a Senior Magic Knight, enhanced mana sensory abilities, and immense endurance, as demonstrated by remaining conscious after having her throat crushed.
