Movie
Description
Maya is a young priestess from Asuka Island, a location in the Grand Line. She belongs to a lineage of shrine maidens whose ancestor originally sealed the legendary cursed blade known as the Seven-Star Sword. Maya is the granddaughter of Izaya and the fiancée of Saga, a swordsman who later becomes possessed by that same blade. She has long blue hair, partially tied up with lavender barrettes, and wears large pink beads at the sides of her face.

Her personality is gentle, compassionate, and selfless. She deeply loves Saga and blames herself for his corruption, believing that she failed to prevent his descent into darkness. This guilt drives her to risk her own life in an effort to free him from the sword’s influence. Despite her fear and sadness, she displays considerable courage and determination when the safety of her village and the island is threatened.

Maya’s primary motivation is to save Saga from the curse of the Seven-Star Sword. She also wishes to protect her home and its people from the destruction the sword can cause. Her sense of responsibility as the descendant of the original priestess compels her to confront the danger head‑on.

In the story, Maya is encountered by the Straw Hat Pirates as they search for their missing crewmate, Roronoa Zoro. She possesses three purple orbs that are key to sealing the Seven-Star Sword’s power; these orbs cannot be touched by Saga’s henchmen. After Zoro takes the orbs and later discards them, Luffy and Usopp recover them and return them to Maya. She then cooperates with the Straw Hats, explaining the history of the curse and the ritual needed to suppress the blade. During the climax, even as the sword’s power awakens, Maya performs the ritual with the orbs, managing to keep the blade from achieving its full strength. After the Seven-Star Sword is destroyed, Saga continues to rampage under the lingering influence of its power, and Maya keeps praying, hoping to reach the man she loves.

Her key relationship is with Saga, whose tragic transformation forms the emotional core of her arc. She also forms a bond with the Straw Hat Pirates, particularly Luffy, who helps her stand up against adversity. Her grandfather, Izaya, provides support and wisdom.

Maya undergoes noticeable development over the course of the film. She begins as a sorrowful and guilt‑ridden figure, but through her alliance with the Straw Hats and her active participation in the ritual, she grows into a resilient person who takes decisive action. Her unwavering faith in Saga and her willingness to sacrifice herself for his sake demonstrate her emotional growth.

Her notable ability is a form of spiritual power channeled through prayer. Her prayers have a tangible effect, capable of weakening the Seven-Star Sword’s curse and participating in the sealing ritual. This power is described as exceptional even among her priestess lineage. She also possesses knowledge of ancient rites and the legendary sword’s history, making her an indispensable guide for the Straw Hats in their confrontation with the cursed blade.
