Description
In the animated feature Afro Samurai: Resurrection, Bin is a tragic figure who serves as one of the primary enforcers and a protector for the main antagonist, Sio. His history is deeply intertwined with Sio's own traumatic past. Before the events of the story, Bin was part of Sio's foster family, known for the amusing mask he wore and his ability to make those around him laugh. This peaceful existence was shattered when the town where he lived was destroyed, an event that Sio blames on the protagonist, Afro. Bin was left with severe, life-threatening wounds from this catastrophe.
In the aftermath, Bin was reconstructed by the mad professor Dharman, transformed into a powerful cybernetic fighter, a fate similar to that of the character Jinno. This reconstruction stripped away his former joyful personality, leaving him a hateful shell of the man he once was. To hide his now robotic appearance, he continues to wear the same distinctive, humorous mask from his past, a stark visual contrast to his grim and vengeful nature.
Bin's primary motivation is a deep-seated hatred for Afro, whom he and Sio's other henchmen hold responsible for the loss of their humanity. Their desire for revenge is also fueled by a wish to prevent Sio from becoming a murderer herself, hoping to kill Afro to spare her from that moral descent. His role in the story is that of a formidable physical obstacle for Afro, one of the key warriors he must defeat on his path to confront Sio.
In terms of abilities, Bin is a highly dangerous combatant. His cybernetic body grants him superhuman capabilities, including using his robotic feet to make huge leaps. His arms are formidable weapons; his left hand can transform into a blade, while his right hand can reconfigure into a laser cannon. He also carries a boom box that can be used as a projectile weapon to fire metal spikes at his opponents. Despite his power, Bin is ultimately destroyed by Afro. In his final moments, after his comrades have been defeated, he uses his last strength to grab hold of Afro's leg and attempts to detonate himself in a suicide attack to kill the samurai. Afro manages to survive this final gambit by kicking Bin's head off, disposing of him for good.
