Máscara, also known as Face or Star Face, is the primary antagonist of the Saber Marionette R OVA series. He is the older brother of the protagonist, Junior, and the eldest son of Virey, the ruler of the city-state of Romana. Máscara is a clone, created genetically from the remains of the original Virey's heart, making him the last clone of the Virey bloodline. Obsessed with becoming the next ruler of Romana, he grew resentful after his father showed favoritism toward his younger brother, Junior, who was born naturally after the restoration of human women. Believing himself to be an exceptional clone and viewing Junior as inferior, Máscara devised a plan to usurp control. When Virey became aware of his son's intentions, he ordered Máscara's arrest and had his known allies within the government executed. However, before Máscara could be put to death, he was freed from captivity by his three sexadolls, powerful marionettes he had created himself: Edge, Brid, and Kyanny. Once free, Máscara seized control of Romana's defense systems through its main computer, effectively taking over the entire city-state without opposition. He then captured and killed his own father, leaving Junior as the only remaining threat to his claim. Throughout the story, Máscara is driven by a deep-seated desire for power and validation. He cares little for anyone other than himself, using and abusing his sexadolls as tools to achieve his ends. His motivations are rooted in a profound insecurity about his identity as a clone and a desperate need to prove his superiority over his naturally born brother. In the final confrontation, the revelation that Junior is a natural-born human rather than a clone shatters Máscara's psyche. Unwilling to accept this reality, he descends into a state of utter derangement and ultimately commits suicide. Despite his villainous actions, the narrative hints that Máscara was not always corrupt. He was, after all, the creator of the marionettes Lime, Cherry, and Bloodberry, whom he originally made as gifts for his father and brother. Junior, even after witnessing the murder of their father, continues to try to redeem his brother, suggesting a more complex and tragic history between them. In terms of abilities, Máscara is a capable strategist and an accomplished creator of marionettes, having designed and built not only the sexadolls used in his coup but also the more benevolent marionettes that serve his family. He also demonstrates the ability to hack and command the city's main computer, giving him control over Romana's military defenses.
