Description
Miyu, also known as Miyu Yamano, is the protagonist of the anime series Vampire Princess Miyu. She is a vampire who appears to be a young girl of about thirteen or fourteen years old but is in fact far older, her aging having been halted when she awakened to her true nature. Her origins differ between adaptations, but in the television series she is the daughter of a human mother and a Shinma father, the previous Guardian. In the original video animation, she is the child of a human father and a vampire mother in post-World War II Japan.
Miyu is a Guardian, also called the Watcher, whose duty is to hunt down stray Shinma, godlike demons that prey on humans, and return them to the darkness from which they came. She was born a vampire and awakened as the Guardian, inheriting this responsibility. She is a complex figure who carries a heavy burden. Her personality is calm, reserved, and often melancholic. She rarely displays strong emotions, which adds to the aura of mystery that surrounds her. She is compassionate toward humans, but this compassion is tempered by her nature as a vampire and her duty as the Guardian.
