OVA
Description
Lemures is a Western Shinma who appears in the OVA series and the manga adaptation of Vampire Princess Miyu. He is a young man with short blond hair and green eyes, and he dresses in robes and often wears an earring. Within the story, he is defined primarily by his longstanding connection to Larva, the Western Shinma who serves as Miyu's companion.

In terms of background, Lemures was an old friend and close companion of Larva before Larva came to Japan and became bound to Miyu. This prior relationship is central to his identity; he was once Larva's ally and intimate associate among the Western Shinma. His motivations are driven almost entirely by his desire to free Larva from what he sees as servitude to Miyu. He believes that Larva has been enslaved or corrupted by the vampire princess and that it is his duty to rescue him.

In the OVA, which is the primary animated source for his character, Lemures appears in the third episode, titled "Fragile Armor." His role in that story is that of an antagonist who orchestrates a scheme to attack Miyu. To accomplish this, he uses the life force of a dying man's wife to transfer the man's soul into a samurai suit of armor, creating a puppet Shinma that he sends against Miyu. His plan also involves sealing Larva inside a wall to neutralize him as a threat. Ultimately, his attempt fails; Larva breaks free from the sealing spell, and Miyu destroys Lemures by burning him to ashes. His defeat is final in the OVA continuity.

Within the manga, Lemures has a more expanded role. He is established as Larva's companion from before Larva's arrival in Japan, and his feelings for Larva are deeper than mere friendship, carrying a romantic undercurrent. He is not alone in his mission; he is part of a larger group of Western Shinma who attempt to "rescue" Larva from Miyu. These efforts repeatedly fail, and in the manga, Lemures is banished to the darkness after his confrontation with Miyu. His younger brother, Lemunia, also appears in later storylines and continues a similar antagonistic role.

Personality-wise, Lemures is characterized by his intense loyalty and possessiveness toward Larva. This devotion drives him to take ruthless actions, such as manipulating and sacrificing humans to achieve his goals. He does not display malice for its own sake but rather a single-minded determination to restore what he believes was taken from him. His demeanor is that of a passionate and resolute young man, willing to use supernatural means and deception to confront a far more powerful opponent.

In terms of notable abilities, Lemures is a Shinma, meaning he possesses supernatural power. His most visible ability is the manipulation of souls and life force, as demonstrated when he extracts the life force of a human to animate a suit of armor as a puppet warrior. He can also cast sealing spells capable of restraining even a being as strong as Larva, holding him within a wall for a period of time. Beyond these feats, he likely has the general resilience and longevity common to Shinma, though his overall power is ultimately insufficient to overcome Miyu.

Lemures does not undergo significant character development across the story; his role is largely static as a sympathetic but doomed antagonist whose actions are rooted in past bonds rather than growth. His key relationship is with Larva, and his interactions with Miyu are defined entirely by his opposition to her. He has no meaningful relationship with other characters such as Himiko or the other humans in the series. His arc concludes with his destruction or banishment, underscoring the theme that bonds formed in the past cannot undo the present loyalties that define Miyu's companions.
