OVA
Description
Miyu's father is portrayed differently in the two anime adaptations of Vampire Princess Miyu. In the original video animation series, he is a human man who lived in postwar Japan. He married the previous Guardian, a vampire, who granted him immortality by sharing her blood. However, this gift stripped him of his fear of death, and with it his drive and sense of joy. He became a reclusive figure, spending his days at home drinking wine and amassing a collection of paintings. He is emotionally distant from his daughter, Miyu, and his role in the story is primarily that of a passive, melancholy presence in her life. He has no supernatural abilities, and his character does not undergo significant development over the course of the OVA. His key relationship is with his vampire wife, whose blood transformed him, and with Miyu, though their bond is strained by his detachment.
In the television series, Miyu's father is a Shinma, a demonic entity who served as the previous Guardian before her. He is named Kitjutsushi. He was the leader of a group of Shinma protectors who worked to ensure that a new Guardian would emerge during the Taishō period, which ultimately turned out to be his own daughter. His background is thus tied to the supernatural hierarchy of the Shinma, and he wields powers befitting a high-ranking member of that world. His motivations are driven by duty and the necessity of maintaining the balance between the human world and the darkness from which the Shinma originate. He is a widower, as Miyu's human mother is deceased, and he appears in the story as a figure of authority and a source of information about Miyu's origins and her role as Guardian. His relationship with Miyu is complex: he is both her father and her predecessor, and his actions have a direct impact on her destiny. His notable abilities are those of a powerful Shinma, though the series does not extensively showcase them in combat. He serves as a supporting character who provides crucial context for Miyu's past and her mission.
