Description
Fûma Monô is a 17 year old student who serves as a major antagonist in the story. Initially, he is presented as a kind and gentle young man who helps his father at the Togakushi shrine and dotes on his younger sister, Kotori. He is a tall, athletic figure who excels in sports and is well liked by his peers, possessing a quiet and pacifist nature.
Fûma and his sister were childhood friends of the protagonist, Kamui Shirô, acting as an older brother figure to him. This peaceful existence is shattered when he learns from his dying father that he is Kamuis "twin star". This revelation means that whatever destiny Kamui chooses, Fûma is forced to become his opposite. Consequently, when Kamui makes the choice to become a Dragon of Heaven, a protector of humanity, Fûma is automatically transformed into the leader of the Dragons of Earth, a group dedicated to destroying mankind to save the planet. This transformation drastically alters his personality, turning him into a cold-blooded and sadistic villain often referred to as the Dark Kamui or the Shadow of Kamui.
As the Kamui of the Dragons of Earth, Fûma possesses immense psychic powers and wields a sacred sword. His most notable ability is the power to see the true, heartfelt wishes of other people. In a cruel twist, he feels compelled to grant these wishes, often in a way that brings about destruction or the death of the person who made the wish or someone they love. He is a powerful fighter capable of destroying spiritual barriers and is considered one of the strongest characters in the series, second only to his counterpart, Kamui.
Despite his role as the primary antagonist, his motivations are not purely evil. He appears bound by his destiny and the logic of granting wishes, occasionally performing acts that seem contradictory, such as warning a mother and daughter to flee before he destroys a building, explaining that the child did not wish to die. Throughout the narrative, his former best friend Kamui is driven by the desire to save Fûma from this dark fate, believing the gentle person he once knew still exists within the villain. Their profound, tragic relationship is the central conflict of the story, exploring themes of destiny, sacrifice, and the dual nature of good and evil that exists within a single person.
