Description
Masamichi Fujisawa is the history teacher at Shinonome High School who becomes one of the four people transported to the fantastical world of El-Hazard in the television series El-Hazard: The Wanderers. On Earth, he is known for his rough appearance, his fondness for alcohol, and his strong sense of school spirit, though he is not widely respected by his students. His vices do not define him; he is a good-hearted individual with a deep sense of right and wrong. He is also an enthusiastic mountaineer, a skill that proves useful in the mountainous terrain of El-Hazard. Upon arrival in Roshtaria, he gains superhuman strength and athletic abilities, but these powers are tied to his sobriety—consuming alcohol negates his enhanced abilities. In The Wanderers specifically, Fujisawa does not smoke, so the stress-induced hyper-powered state seen in the original OVA does not occur. Despite his unkempt demeanor, Fujisawa is a devoted teacher who attempts to continue his students' education even in the new world. He becomes a valuable ally to Makoto Mizuhara and the people of Roshtaria, often acting as a protector and guide. He develops a romantic relationship with Miz Mishtal, the water priestess of Mount Muldoon, though he is initially unsure how to handle her persistent attention. Over the course of the series, Fujisawa remains a consistently reliable figure, balancing his rough habits with a genuine desire to help those around him and uphold his school's honor.
