Description
Nanarin is one of the seven physical manifestations of the original Nana Suzuki, created when a crystal experiment split Nana’s personality into separate individuals. She is known as the Crybaby Nana because she is extremely sensitive and prone to crying at the slightest provocation. Almost anything can set off her tears, from minor disappointments to emotional situations. Her appearance typically includes short pinkish hair and large brown eyes, and she is often seen in a school uniform. Her associated color is chartreuse, sometimes described as yellow-green.
Nanarin’s core motivations stem from her deep emotional vulnerability. She seeks reassurance and comfort from her fellow Nanas and her classmates. Despite her fragility, she is empathetic and can sense when others are upset, offering a shoulder to cry on. In the story, she serves as the emotional core of the group, reminding the others that sensitivity and kindness are valuable traits. Her role often involves moments of comic relief when her crying escalates, but she also provides genuine emotional support in serious situations.
Her notable ability is connected directly to her emotional state. When Nanarin cries loudly, she can emit powerful sonic waves from her voice, capable of disorienting or physically affecting those nearby. The only reliable way to calm her down is to gently rub the back of her head, which soothes her and stops the outburst.
In the narrative, Nanarin is one of the six clones who, together with the original Nana, must coexist and eventually reintegrate within a year or risk disappearing. The group shares a collective crush on their classmate Yuichi Kamichika, but each Nana reacts to this affection in her own way—Nanarin’s feelings manifest as shyness and frequent emotional overwhelm. Her relationships with the other Nanas are complex: they bicker and compete, yet they also work together seamlessly when needed, reflecting that they are all facets of the same person.
Over the course of the series, Nanarin experiences personal growth. She begins to manage her tears more effectively and gains confidence in her own abilities. She learns to stand up for herself and others, demonstrating courage even when frightened. This development highlights her transition from a purely vulnerable character to one who can channel her sensitivity into strength.
