Description
Eudial is a fictional character from the anime Sailor Moon S, where she serves as the first prominent antagonist of the season and a key member of the Death Busters organization. Specifically, she is the inaugural member of a subgroup known as the Witches 5 to appear in the series. Her name is derived from the mineral eudialyte, continuing the thematic naming convention used for many characters in the franchise. In the anime, she acts as a scientist and field agent, tasked with a critical mission for her masters.

In terms of her background, Eudial is a genius inventor and computer programmer who works directly under Professor Tomoe, the leader of the Death Busters. She operates from a hidden underground laboratory, where she develops sophisticated technology to carry out her assignments. Her primary mission is to locate individuals in Tokyo who possess Pure Heart Crystals, as these crystals have the potential to be the legendary Talismans needed to summon the Holy Grail. Unlike many of her colleagues who rely solely on supernatural powers or monsters, Eudial prefers to use her intellect and mechanical creations.

Eudial has a distinct and memorable personality. She is portrayed as highly competent, confident, and ambitious, often taking a leadership role among the Witches 5. She is extremely dedicated to her job and strives for efficiency and results, which makes her one of the more successful villains in the season. However, she also has a famously short temper and becomes easily frustrated and annoyed when her meticulously laid plans go awry. This is especially evident when the Sailor Senshi interfere with her operations. One of her most defining and comedic character traits is her utterly reckless driving, which contrasts sharply with her otherwise calm and analytical demeanor in the laboratory. Despite her arrogance, she is deeply insecure about her position and fears being replaced by one of the other witches.

Eudial's primary motivation is professional success and survival. She is driven by a desire to prove her worth to Professor Tomoe and secure her place as the indispensable leader of the Witches 5. This motivation intensifies when she overhears gossip that she may be replaced, pushing her to take greater risks in her search for the Talismans rather than simply harvesting Pure Heart Crystals. While she serves the grand goal of the Death Busters to bring about the Silence, her personal drive is rooted in career ambition and rivalry.

Her role in the story is significant, as she is the first Witch to actively hunt for Pure Hearts on the streets of Tokyo. She directly confronts the Sailor Senshi in numerous episodes, using her inventions to gain the upper hand. Eudial is responsible for several major plot advancements. She successfully deduces the civilian identities of Sailor Moon, Sailor Venus, Sailor Uranus, and Sailor Neptune. More importantly, she becomes the first villain to locate two of the three Talisman bearers, Sailors Uranus and Neptune. By luring them to a booby-trapped Marine Cathedral, she successfully extracts their Heart Crystals and obtains their Talismans, the Space Sword and the Deep Aqua Mirror. This act forces the final confrontation and ultimately leads to the formation of the Holy Grail and Sailor Moon's transformation into Super Sailor Moon for the first time.

Key relationships define her time in the series. She has a professional but tense relationship with Professor Tomoe, whom she is eager to please. Her most notable dynamic is her intense rivalry with her fellow Witch, Mimete. Mimete is jealous of Eudial's favored position and constantly plays pranks on her, such as putting snails in her locker. This rivalry is ultimately what leads to Eudial's demise. Her relationship with the Sailor Senshi is purely adversarial, with a particular narrative parallel drawn between her and Sailor Mars, as both are associated with fire-based powers.

Eudial undergoes a clear development arc, albeit a tragic one. She starts as a successful and intimidating inventor who regularly outsmarts the Sailor Senshi and escapes without being defeated. After a series of failures, her desperation to avoid being replaced leads her to a grand, nearly successful scheme to capture all the Talismans at once. She achieves a great victory by stealing two of them, but her arrogance in trying to claim the Holy Grail for herself leads to her defeat by the newly empowered Super Sailor Moon. Her character concludes with a brutal and darkly comedic end: after her defeat, a battered Eudial tries to drive back to the laboratory, only to discover that Mimete has sabotaged her car by cutting the brake lines and filling the compartment with snails. Unable to stop, she drives off a cliff to her death, marking a definitive end to her role in the series.

Eudial possesses several notable abilities, almost all stemming from her technological genius rather than inherent magic. Her primary weapon is the Capture Gun, a device she invented that can forcibly extract a Pure Heart Crystal from a victim's body. For combat, she wields two powerful flamethrowers: the Fire Buster and the more advanced Fire Buster II. The Fire Buster II is capable not only of generating intense flames that can neutralize Sailor Moon's attacks but also of firing a powerful adhesive to immobilize her enemies. Beyond her weapons, Eudial is an expert hacker and programmer, having created a sophisticated computer program to identify Pure Heart holders. She is also shown to be a competent, if unorthodox, engineer who can booby-trap locations like the Marine Cathedral with complex mechanical devices. In the anime, while she primarily uses technology, she demonstrates the ability to teleport short distances in a manner similar to other Death Busters. Her counterpart in the original manga has a different set of abilities, including transformation into a monstrous Gorgon-like form and a rank as a Level 78 warrior of flame.
