Description
Mimet is a villain from the anime Sailor Moon S and a member of the Witches 5, the elite subordinates of the Death Busters. She first appears after the death of fellow witch Eudial, whom she sabotaged by cutting the brakes on her car. Mimet’s background within the Death Busters places her under the command of Professor Souichi Tomoe, who tasks her with collecting Pure Heart Crystals, also called Hostes, from humans in order to fuel the revival of the entity Mistress 9 and summon their master Pharaoh 90. She operates out of Mugen Academy, the Death Busters’ base.
Mimet’s personality is flighty, scatterbrained, and easily distracted. Unlike the more disciplined members of the Witches 5, she is the least organized and frequently neglects her mission in favor of fawning over handsome male idols and celebrities. Her infatuation with attractive young men often leads her to flirt with her targets rather than efficiently extracting their pure hearts. This lack of focus frustrates Professor Tomoe, who repeatedly admonishes her. Despite her ditzy demeanor, Mimet is also capable of ruthless, selfish acts. She enjoys playing pranks on Eudial, but her rivalry escalates to murder when she deliberately causes Eudial’s death to take her place. Mimet feels no remorse for this and initially treats it as a victory. As the narrative progresses, her cruelty becomes more pronounced, revealing a self-serving streak that prioritizes her own ambitions over any loyalty to the group.
Mimet’s primary motivation is to prove herself worthy of Professor Tomoe’s approval and to secure her position within the Death Busters. She craves recognition and believes that by collecting pure hearts more effectively than her predecessors, she can earn his praise. However, her obsession with romance and fame constantly undermines her efforts. She also seeks to outdo Eudial, whom she resents, and later attempts to usurp Tellu’s role in a similar fashion.
Her role in the story is that of a recurring antagonist who directly challenges the Sailor Guardians. After Eudial’s death, she becomes the second active member of the Witches 5 and is assigned to gather pure hearts from humans, primarily through the use of Daimons—monsters she creates or summons. Her Daimons are unique in that they physically suck the Pure Heart Crystals out of their victims through the mouth, a method that requires the power of the Holy Grail to overcome. She battles the Sailor Soldiers on multiple occasions, notably targeting Sailor Venus due to a personal rivalry that extends across different versions of the story. In the anime, Mimet and Minako Aino develop a brief, lighthearted friendship when Mimet disguises herself as a harmless idol, making Minako’s later discovery of her true nature more tragic.
Mimet’s key relationships are defined by rivalry and dependence. She harbors intense animosity toward Eudial, whom she eventually kills, and later clashes with Tellu, who ultimately engineers her downfall. She also interacts with Professor Tomoe, whom she desperately tries to please but who grows increasingly impatient with her failures. In the anime, she develops a genuine, if misguided, attachment to Minako, but this does not prevent her from continuing her villainous schemes. Her relationship with the other Witches 5 is one of competition rather than camaraderie.
Her development in the anime is notable for its ironic and tragic arc. Early episodes present her as a comedic, inept villain who is more interested in daydreaming about celebrities than in actually completing her assignments. Over time, she becomes more desperate and dangerous, culminating in a scheme to use Eudial’s abandoned invention, the Witches Electric Warp, to increase her power and finally defeat the Sailor Guardians. However, Tellu, who has been monitoring her, deliberately pulls the plug on the machine while Mimet is inside in digitized form, trapping her forever. The device is later destroyed along with the building, resulting in her permanent death. This end is considered both gruesome and poetic, as she is undone by the same mechanical means she used to eliminate Eudial, and by the very person she intended to betray.
Mimet’s notable abilities include the Charm Buster attack, a sonic-based technique that emits painful waves to incapacitate enemies. She also possesses charm-based magic that allows her to manipulate and attract others, and she can create Daimons that specialize in extracting pure hearts. In the anime, her powers are supplemented by scientific tools and inventions left behind by Eudial. Despite these abilities, her unreliability and lack of focus make her one of the less effective members of the Witches 5, and her fate serves as a cautionary example of ambition without competence.
