Description
Mimete, also known as Babette in some adaptations, is a fictional character from the anime Sailor Moon S. She appears as a primary antagonist and is the second member of the Witches 5, a group of female scientists serving the Death Busters organization. Her name is derived from the mineral mimetite. In her civilian guise, she often wears round glasses and has a youthful, unassuming appearance that belies her role as a villain.

Personality wise, Mimete is portrayed as distinctly different from her more serious predecessor, Eudial. She is ditzy, easily distracted, and remarkably immature for a member of a villainous organization. Her most defining trait is a powerful, almost obsessive attraction to handsome celebrities and public figures, including pop stars, actors, and athletes. This obsession frequently overrides her professional duties, leading her to choose targets based on her current celebrity crush rather than any strategic value to the Death Busters. She is also shown to be lazy, often sleeping through meetings, and has a dramatic, childish demeanor, prone to crying and running away when her plans fail.

Mimete's primary motivation is a desire for recognition and success, though she pursues it in a haphazard and self-centered manner. Unlike her colleagues who are dedicated to the Death Busters' goal of finding the talismans, Mimete is far more interested in fame, idolatry, and her own personal gratification. She is so enamored with the idea of becoming an idol that she once seriously considered quitting villainy altogether to pursue a career in entertainment. Her actions are largely driven by a need for approval from her superior, Professor Tomoe, and a fierce, petty rivalry with the other members of the Witches 5.

In the story, Mimete plays a key role as a recurring obstacle for the Sailor Guardians after she orchestrates the death of her predecessor, Eudial. Her introduction to the narrative is marked by cruel pranks on Eudial, such as putting snails in her locker and cutting the brakes on her car, which ultimately leads to Eudial's fatal crash. Following this, Mimete assumes the role of collecting Pure Heart Crystals. She operates by unleashing Daimon monsters that are designed to retrieve the crystals with a kiss, sucking them out of their victims. Her missions are comically inept, often failing because she gets sidetracked trying to get autographs from her targets or competing in talent shows, as seen when she and Sailor Venus both audition for a role in an idol's movie.

Mimete's key relationships are defined by rivalry and a thirst for validation. She has a contentious relationship with her fellow Witches, constantly seeking to undermine them to gain favor. After eliminating Eudial, she later sabotages Tellu by using a voice imitator to cancel Tellu's mission so she could take it for herself. Her interactions with Professor Tomoe are childlike; she seeks his consolation after failures and blames him and the Daimons for her own shortcomings, even going so far as to kick him out of the laboratory at one point. On the side of the heroes, she shares a notable rivalry with Sailor Venus, as both characters have a passion for pop culture and celebrity crushes, leading to direct competition between them.

Mimete undergoes minimal development in terms of becoming a better villain, but her desperation and recklessness escalate as her failures mount. After a series of humiliations, her resolve to work harder is short-lived. Frustrated by her inability to succeed, she blames the Daimons she is given and tampers with the Daimon oven, nearly destroying the laboratory by creating a monster that tears a rift in space and time. Her desperation peaks when she discovers she is about to be replaced by Tellu. In a final, arrogant attempt to prove her worth, she uses Eudial's abandoned invention, the Witches Electric Warp, which allows her to appear on a giant television screen and grow in size and power. However, Tellu reveals that the machine has a fatal flaw: pulling the plug while someone is inside it will trap them forever. Tellu does so, and Mimete is effectively shut off, meeting her end not in battle, but as a victim of her own scheming and the rivalries she cultivated.

Regarding her notable abilities, Mimete is not a powerful front-line fighter. Her primary method of attack is using a special staff or device to summon and control Daimons to do her bidding. She is also capable of performing a direct attack known as the Charm Buster, which sends star-shaped sound waves toward her opponent to cause disorientation and vertigo. While generally inept in combat, she demonstrated a moment of direct confrontation when she fought alongside her Daimon U-Tahime after losing an idol competition, choosing to battle rather than flee for the first time.
