Description
Mistress 9, also known as the Sovereign of Silence or the Messiah of Silence, is a primary antagonist from the Death Busters, an evil organization originating from the Tau Star System. She is a parasitic entity without a definitive physical form of her own, serving as the second-in-command and most powerful servant of the cosmic entity Pharaoh 90. Her central mission is to prepare the Earth for the arrival of her master, which she seeks to accomplish by shrouding the world in an eternal silence and destruction.

The origin of Mistress 9 on Earth lies in a tragic accident. Following an explosion in the laboratory of Professor Souichi Tomoe, his daughter, Hotaru, was fatally injured. A Daimon egg containing Mistress 9 was implanted into the girl's cybernetically reconstructed body, bringing her back to life but at a terrible cost. From that point on, Mistress 9 lay dormant within Hotaru, feeding on her host’s life force. The girl's subsequent frail health, chronic weakness, and violent seizures were direct results of the parasitic entity struggling for control and periodically surfacing to issue commands to her subordinates.

In terms of appearance, once fully awakened, Mistress 9 forcibly ages Hotaru's body to that of a mature woman. She is tall and pale, with sharp, maniacal features and long, flowing black hair that extends well past her feet. Her attire consists of a dark blue or teal vest with a high collar and a matching mermaid-cut skirt. She is often adorned with two rows of white pearls that drape across her bust and wrap around her arms, and a prominent black star mark appears on her forehead.

Mistress 9 embodies cruelty, psychopathy, and a single-minded dedication to her mission. She is a master manipulator, showing no loyalty to anyone but Pharaoh 90 and viewing emotions like love and friendship as weaknesses to be exploited. This manipulative nature is a key aspect of her personality, as she readily deceives and discards her allies once they have outlived their usefulness. For instance, after Kaolinite successfully retrieves the Pure Heart Crystal needed for her full awakening, Mistress 9 thanks her by killing her with a bolt of lightning, deeming her no longer necessary. She feels no remorse and takes pleasure in tormenting her enemies both physically and mentally. Despite her arrogance and initial calm demeanor, she is prone to severe fits of anxiety and desperation, especially when her plans begin to fail or when Hotaru's own willpower threatens to overpower her from within.

Mistress 9 possesses a formidable array of abilities. Her most iconic weapon is her preternaturally long hair, which she can extend at will to ensnare, strangle her victims, or even petrify them. She can generate and discharge powerful bolts of lightning from her hands and possesses telekinetic abilities, allowing her to create force fields, move objects with her mind, and teleport. She can also open spatial portals and is capable of altering her appearance to perfectly mimic the form of her host, Hotaru. Her ultimate goal was to obtain the Holy Grail, which would allow her to amplify her power to its peak and summon her master, Pharaoh 90, to Earth.

Throughout the story, Mistress 9 is defined by her parasitic relationship with Hotaru Tomoe. She uses Hotaru's body as a vessel, issuing commands to Professor Tomoe from a dark room filled with dolls and toys while still in her dormant state. Her awakening is triggered when she feeds on the Pure Heart Crystal of Sailor Chibi Moon. Upon awakening, she seizes control and uses her new power to summon Pharaoh 90. However, her reign is ultimately cut short by the very host she inhabits. Hotaru’s powerful will and cherished memories of her father and her friend ChibiUsa allow her to fight back against the possessing entity. Overpowering Mistress 9 from within, Hotaru regains control of her body and awakens as Sailor Saturn, the Guardian of Destruction and Rebirth. In doing so, she destroys Mistress 9 from the inside, ending her threat for good.
