Description
In the French adaptation of the film Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro, the character widely known as Fujiko Mine is renamed Barbara. She is a professional criminal, burglar, and confidence trickster who operates internationally. Within the context of this particular film, she states that she and the master thief Arsène Lupin III were once lovers, but that she ended the relationship.

Barbara is defined by her sharp intelligence, her craftiness, and her willingness to use her feminine charms to manipulate men to achieve her goals. She is a pragmatic and independent operator who prioritizes her own gain, whether that be treasure, money, or personal freedom. In The Castle of Cagliostro, she is portrayed as more seasoned and pragmatic than in other installments, employing subtle tactics and relying on her wits and marksmanship rather than solely on seduction. Her primary motivation is self-interest, with a particular fondness for valuable treasure and money. At the film's conclusion, she makes off with the plates for the legendary counterfeit Goat Bills, a prize that serves as a superb source of illegal income.

Her role in the story is that of a competitor and occasional partner to Lupin. While she is not a permanent member of his gang, she is involved in the caper surrounding the Duchy of Cagliostro. True to her nature, she betrays Lupin to get close to the enemy, the Count of Cagliostro, ingratiating herself with him to further her own objectives. Her actions are a primary source of complication for Lupin and his partners.

Barbara shares a complex and long-standing relationship with Lupin, who remains infatuated with her. While she uses his feelings to her advantage, she never places him in a situation from which she believes he cannot escape. The two share a bizarre but amicable relationship, and she does possess hidden feelings for him, though she rarely reveals them. In contrast, Daisuke Jigen, Lupus's right-hand man, deeply distrusts Barbara and sees her arrival as an omen of trouble. Goemon Ishikawa XIII is also wary of her manipulations, though he has worked with her independently on occasion.

Barbara is a highly capable individual with a diverse set of skills. She is an excellent markswoman, and while she typically favors a Browning M1910 pistol, in The Castle of Cagliostro she notably uses a Luger P08. She is also very skilled in martial arts. Like Lupin, she is a master of disguise and accents, able to speak numerous foreign languages. She can pilot virtually any land, sea, or air vehicle, though she has a personal preference for motorcycles. Her appearance in this film reflects a character who has matured and must rely less on her physical beauty and more on her considerable experience and cunning.
