Description
George deSand is the Gundam Fighter representing Neo France in the thirteenth Gundam Fight. He is a young man of 21 years, born on November 11, with long red hair and blue eyes. As the scion of the noble de Sand family, one of the few noble lines that chose to remain on Earth, he was raised with a strong sense of chivalry and duty. His fighting style is centered on fencing, a skill he was trained in by his faithful butler, Raymond Bishop, who has cared for him since infancy.
George’s personality is defined by his princely and elegant demeanor, though this often manifests as an arrogant and condescending attitude toward others. He is overflowing with the spirit of chivalry and holds a deep respect for ladies, which is closely tied to his devotion to Princess Maria Louise of Neo France. He takes immense pride in his nation and his own abilities, believing that winning the Gundam Fight will bring honor to his homeland. Despite his sometimes rakish and mischievous side, including hiding a bottle of champagne in his Gundam’s cockpit to celebrate a planned victory, he carries a heavy emotional burden.
The central tragedy of his life is known as the Marseilles Tragedy. Prior to the thirteenth Gundam Fight, George competed against Jean-Pierre Mirabeau to determine Neo France’s official representative. Mirabeau was disqualified for using the crowd as a human shield to prevent George from attacking. After the king declared George the winner, Mirabeau attempted to assassinate the monarch in a fit of rage. George tried to stop his opponent, but the struggle caused several of Mirabeau’s missiles to be redirected into the stands, killing thousands of spectators. This event left deep emotional scars that would continue to haunt him.
George first encounters the protagonist Domon Kasshu when Domon interferes in his match against Neo Cuba. Initially, George refuses to fight Domon out of a sense of honor. However, after a staged kidnapping by Princess Maria Louise forces a confrontation, the two battle atop the Eiffel Tower. During the fight, the structure begins to collapse, threatening the princess and Rain Mikamura. George, piloting the Gundam Rose, chooses to catch the falling tower to protect them, holding it in place even though it leaves him completely vulnerable. Domon declines to attack him in this position, and the match ends in a draw. This event establishes a mutual respect between the two fighters.
George’s role in the story expands when he becomes a member of the Shuffle Alliance, taking on the title of the Jack of Diamonds. He is recruited after being infected by the Devil Gundam’s DG Cells in Shinjuku, though the experience reopens his old psychological wounds from Marseilles. This trauma causes him to become erratic and uncontrollable in battle, leading him to fire his loyal butler, Raymond. He is later confronted by a vengeful Mirabeau, who has allied with the Devil Gundam. Paralyzed by fear, George is unable to fight until Raymond shields him from an attack. Enraged, George nearly kills Mirabeau but is stopped by Domon. With Raymond’s help, he conquers his fear and learns to control his trauma, eventually using his power as the Jack of Diamonds to heal the DG Cell corruption within Mirabeau.
George’s key relationships define his journey. He is devoted to Princess Maria Louise, who reciprocates his feelings, and relies heavily on his butler Raymond Bishop for support and guidance. His rivalry with Domon Kasshu evolves from initial disdain to deep mutual respect and camaraderie. He also has a competitive and occasionally bickering relationship with fellow Shuffle Alliance member Chibodee Crockett, though they ultimately approve of each other and fight side by side. Late in the tournament, when the King of France forbids him from fighting Domon out of fear he is not strong enough, George risks his position and his family’s honor by stealing the Gundam Rose to challenge Domon unofficially. After witnessing the match, the king acknowledges George’s true fighting spirit and apologizes.
George pilots the GF13-009NF Gundam Rose, a mobile fighter designed for both reconnaissance and combat. He employs a fencing-based combat style, using a beam saber known as the Gentlemen's Saber for close-quarters dueling. His primary ranged and tactical weapon is the Rose Bits, a set of remote-controlled weapons stored within the Gundam’s left shoulder cloak that can perform all-range attacks. His signature techniques include the Rose Hurricane and the Rose Streamers, often used in conjunction with his bits. In his Super Mode, he can unleash the powerful Rose Hurricane attack.
