Description
Dr. Mikamura is a supporting character in Mobile Fighter G Gundam, serving as a scientist for the space colony of Neo Japan. He is the father of Rain Mikamura and plays a complex role that shifts from a mentor figure to a revealed antagonist before ultimately seeking redemption.

His background is rooted in scientific collaboration and personal rivalry. He was a long-time colleague and friend of Dr. Raizo Kasshu, the father of the protagonist Domon Kasshu and his brother Kyoji. Together, they worked on advanced mobile suit technology, including the revolutionary Ultimate Gundam, a machine designed with the ambitious principles of self-regeneration, self-propagation, and self-evolution. Dr. Mikamura is credited as the developer of some of the series' primary mobile fighters, including the Shining Gundam and the God Gundam, and he also created the Rising Gundam. His daughter, Rain, served as Domon's support technician during the 13th Gundam Fight, and Dr. Mikamura ostensibly supported this mission from Neo Japan's headquarters.

Beneath his outwardly supportive and warm-hearted demeanor, Dr. Mikamura harbors a deep-seated and destructive jealousy. Despite being a brilliant scientist in his own right, he felt consistently inferior to his friend Raizo, whose genius led to the creation of the Ultimate Gundam. This long-suppressed envy eventually exploded, motivating him to conspire with the ambitious and power-hungry Major Ulube Ishikawa. Their plot led to the downfall of the Kasshu family: Dr. Raizo Kasshu was falsely accused, arrested, and sentenced to cryogenic imprisonment, while Kyoji was forced to flee to Earth with the Ultimate Gundam, which later became corrupted into the malevolent Devil Gundam. This act of betrayal is the central tragedy of his past and the catalyst for the story's main conflict.

Throughout much of the story, Dr. Mikamura acts as a reliable ally, providing Domon with new Gundams and support from Neo Japan. However, his guilt manifests when Schwarz Bruder, a mysterious fighter who is later revealed to be an android carrying the will of Kyoji Kasshu, is wounded in battle. Fearing that Schwarz might expose his secret, a panicked Dr. Mikamura attempts to kill him, but his daughter Rain intervenes. Confronted with the truth, Dr. Mikamura confesses his crimes, admitting that his jealousy destroyed the Kasshu family and ruined Domon's life. This revelation marks a turning point, and he becomes deeply remorseful, viewing himself as unworthy to be Rain's father.

His key relationships define his character arc. His relationship with Raizo Kasshu is one of deep friendship poisoned by professional jealousy. His bond with his daughter, Rain, is loving but is severely damaged by the revelation of his betrayal. However, his final actions are driven by a desire to save her and absolve her of any guilt for his sins. His dynamic with Ulube changes as well; while he was once an ally, he is ultimately betrayed by Ulube, who reveals an even more ruthless ambition to use Rain as the new biological core for the Devil Gundam.

In the story's climax, Dr. Mikamura attempts to warn Rain to flee from Ulube but is shot and mortally wounded. Despite his injuries, he manages to contact Domon and the Shuffle Alliance, warning them of Ulube's treachery and the Devil Gundam's threat. In his final moments, he stumbles to the chamber where the cryogenically frozen Dr. Raizo Kasshu is held. Sacrificing himself, he releases Raizo's capsule into space, ensuring that his former friend can be revived to help stop the Devil Gundam. Just before he dies, he makes one last request of Domon: to save Rain and to tell her not to blame herself for her father's crimes.

As a scientist, Dr. Mikamura's notable abilities lie in his engineering skill. He is a highly capable developer of mobile fighters, with the Shining Gundam, God Gundam, and Rising Gundam all being his creations. While his scientific work was instrumental in the creation of powerful weapons, his story is ultimately one of personal failure, remorse, and a final act of atonement driven by love for his daughter.
