Movie
Description
Badiane is the primary antagonist of the Sailor Moon SuperS movie, a powerful witch who rules from her domain known as Marzipan Castle. Her ultimate ambition is to harvest the dreams of Earth's children to fuel and expand a cosmic anomaly called the Black Dream Hole, which she intends to grow large enough to swallow the entire planet and bring it under her control.
Badiane presents herself as a regal and deceptive figure. To achieve her goal, she enlists the help of four fairies—Perle, Poupelin, Banane, and Orangeat—by lying to them, promising that the children she abducts will live in a safe, happy dream world where they can remain young forever. Her true nature is one of cold calculation and a hunger for power, as she sees the children merely as sources of energy. This is most evident when she discovers that the young Chibiusa possesses an exceptionally powerful dream energy, which she then decides to use as the primary catalyst to finally open the Black Dream Hole.
In her role as the film's main villain, Badiane commands her minions to use magical flutes to lure children from across the globe to her floating castle. Once there, she seals them within Dream Coffins to systematically drain their dream energy. She is a formidable presence, often appearing as a towering, ethereal figure who can levitate and generate powerful defensive energy barriers. Her connection to the Black Dream Hole is intrinsic; she is described as being one with it, and she can manipulate its power to create illusions, engulf her foes, and attack with dark fire and black lightning.
Badiane's key relationships are primarily with her fairy subordinates. While Poupelin, Banane, and Orangeat remain loyal, Perle eventually renounces her cause after befriending Chibiusa and witnessing the queen's true, cruel intentions. This betrayal leads the Sailor Guardians directly to Marzipan Castle to confront her. During the final battle, Badiane demonstrates her overwhelming power by easily incapacitating the other Sailor Guardians and dragging Sailor Moon into the Black Dream Hole. Within the void, Sailor Moon is trapped in a personal illusion, a testament to Badiane’s ability to weaponize dreams. However, the queen shows little capacity for development or redemption, remaining a singularly focused force of consumption. Her end comes when Sailor Moon and the newly awakened Sailor Chibi Moon, empowered by the combined strength of all the Sailor Guardians, use their Moon Gorgeous Meditation attack to destroy the Black Dream Hole from within, obliterating Badiane along with it. Her visual design, conceived by Naoko Takeuchi, incorporates elements of star anise as accessories throughout her hair and clothing, and her hair is styled to resemble twisted bread, connecting her to the dessert-themed naming of the movie's villains.
