Born on September 20, 1975, she was raised in New Jersey and studied theater at Hofstra University, beginning her voice acting work while still in high school. Since the late 1990s, she has built a substantial body of work, contributing to numerous major franchises across various dubbing studios, including 4Kids Entertainment, Bang Zoom! Entertainment, and NYAV Post.
Sands is likely best known for her long-standing association with the Pokémon franchise, where she has voiced multiple characters. Her most iconic role in this series is the Grass-type starter Pokémon Bulbasaur, a part she has played across various episodes and media. She has also voiced the Trainer Ritchie, the Gym Leader Jasmine, and many others. Her connection to the franchise extends to related projects, such as portraying Cynthia in Pokémon Generations and Kari Kamiya (known as Hikari Yagami) in the Digimon Adventure tri. films and Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna.
Another significant early role was as Mokuba Kaiba, the younger brother of the rival Seto Kaiba, in the immensely popular Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters series. During the same era, she lent her voice to the fiery and determined Anna Kyōyama in the 2001 Shaman King series, as well as the character Opacho. Her work with 4Kids also included the role of the wealthy Kaya in the company's adaptation of One Piece.
Her career has continued to flourish with prominent roles in contemporary, highly popular anime. In Jujutsu Kaisen, Sands voices two characters from the Kyoto Jujutsu High: the teacher Utahime Iori and the third-year student Momo Nishimiya, showcasing her ability to portray different personalities within the same series. In the isekai genre, she has taken on multiple roles, such as voicing both Lemia and Aerial in Isekai Cheat Magician, and playing Kuku in the cozy fantasy series I've Been Killing Slimes for 300 Years and Maxed Out My Level. She also voices the character Rikekuma in the romantic comedy Science Fell in Love, So I Tried to Prove It.
