Description
Anna Kyōyama, born in Aomori, Japan, was abandoned by her parents after her innate mind-reading ability forced her to involuntarily absorb others’ negative emotions, summoning destructive oni. Rescued from Mount Osore, a spiritual nexus reflected in her surname "Kyōyama," she was adopted by Kino Asakura, Yoh’s grandmother, who defied tradition by training her as a fully sighted itako—a rarity among blind spirit mediums.

Her childhood isolation stemmed from uncontrolled Reishi, a power that unleashed oni through emotional surges, driving her to self-imposed confinement. At age ten, Yoh visited Mount Osore, triggering an oni born from her hatred to attack him. This encounter forged their bond. Later, Yoh, with the spirit Matamune’s aid, confronted the Oh-Oni, a colossal demon born from Anna’s pent-up anguish. Matamune’s sacrificial intervention allowed Yoh to destroy the Oh-Oni, breaking Anna’s curse and granting her control over her abilities. This pivotal moment cemented her loyalty to Yoh, whom she pledged to train relentlessly for the Shaman King title.

Anna’s training regimen for Yoh is brutally strict, fueled by her conviction in his destiny and her debt to him for her liberation. Though outwardly stern, she openly professes love for Yoh, revealing vulnerability only during crises—such as his near-death under Tokageroh’s possession or Hao’s absorption of his soul. Her fierce possessiveness emerges in moments like mistaking an Oracle Bell for a rival’s pager, prompting her to discipline Yoh physically.

Her spiritual arsenal includes the 1080 beads, crafted from the Oh-Oni’s remnants, enabling techniques like Furyoku Nullification and Curse Reversal. She once usurped Hao’s shikigami, Zenki and Kouki, proving her formidable prowess. Though the Oh-Oni’s defeat stripped her Reishi ability, her physical strength endures, exemplified by her iconic "right hand slap" and "phantom left hand slap."

Her dynamic with Hao Asakura, Yoh’s twin and rival, blends intrigue and defiance. Hao, struck by her resemblance to his mother Asano-Ha, offered her a place as his queen. Anna rebuffed him with a slap—an act he tolerated, underscoring her audacity.

Post-Shaman Fight, she marries Yoh and bears their son, Hana, as seen in *Funbari no Uta*. She aids Yoh’s quest to reshape the world and mentors Silva’s daughter, Anna III, in *Shaman King: Flowers*. Alternate media like *Butsu Zone* and *Itako no Anna* depict variations of her character, including a cheerier persona, though these exist outside her primary canon.

Her arc traces a path from tormented isolation to empowered purpose, balancing unwavering discipline with profound emotional bonds, all while shaping Yoh’s fate as Shaman King.
