Description
Ivalera is a small, winged elf of the pisky race, descendants of the ancient spirits of the wind. She is roughly the same size as Puck, a fellow elf, but her aura is a pink color. Unlike Puck, she is not naked and appears to wear a halter top and a skirt made of translucent, petal-like material.
Ivalera is an empath, possessing the ability to feel the emotions of those around her. She is particularly attuned to the feelings of the young witch Schierke, acting as her devoted best friend and the external voice of her inner thoughts. Her demeanor is outwardly more serious and reliable than the carefree Puck, and she strives to be better than the average pisky, who are known for their bubbly, fun-loving nature. This serious attitude, however, does not make her immune to silliness. When bickering with Puck, she can revert to a nonsensical, super-deformed appearance similar to his.
Ivalera's primary motivation is the protection and well-being of Schierke. She often acts in a protective, almost motherly fashion, trying to shield her from emotional distress. When Schierke falls into a deep trance, Ivalera counsels the other party members on how to help her return. Her initial mistrust toward Guts was a direct result of this protective instinct. She is aware of Schierke's crush on Guts and sometimes tries to encourage it, much to Schierke's embarrassment, which often results in Ivalera being stuffed into Schierke's hat.
Within Guts' traveling party, Ivalera fills the role of Schierke's constant companion and a source of comic relief, often through her interactions with Puck. While Puck has a bossy but warm relationship with the young swordsman Isidro, Ivalera finds Isidro's attitude to be greatly disturbing, sharing Schierke's impression of him as an "incompetent monkey." Ivalera has a playful relationship with the noblewoman Farnese. Upon discovering Farnese's desire to learn magic from Schierke, Ivalera began to frequently tease her, likening her new status to that of an apprentice or a servant maid, though she does not exploit or abuse her.
Ivalera does not undergo significant personal transformation, but her presence is a constant source of support for Schierke, enabling the young witch's own development. Her dynamic with the rest of the party, particularly her bickering with Puck and her teasing of Farnese, becomes an established part of the group's daily life during their journey.
In terms of abilities, Ivalera can fly, though she primarily rides on Schierke or her hat. Her most notable power is her empathy, which she uses to sense the feelings of others, often for comic effect. Like Puck, she produces a healing dust from her wings. Despite their constant bickering, the two elves will work together to use their dust to help heal injured members of the party. Although her small size limits her direct combat use, she can generate a bright flash to momentarily blind enemies.
