Description
Hajime is the Leafe Knight of Water in the anime Prétear and is the second youngest member of the group. As a Knight of Water, his abilities include creating and manipulating water, often forming it into weapons such as whips. When the protagonist, Himeno Awayuki, assumes his power through a process called "preting," she is able to wield a weapon known as the Water Flail.
Hajime is a young boy with a happy-go-lucky and friendly personality. He approaches life with great enthusiasm and is easily cheered up, generally content to enjoy being a child. He took an immediate liking to Himeno when she was introduced to the group, quickly asking for her help. While he initially viewed the conflict with the Princess of Disaster as a grand adventure, he eventually gained an appreciation for its true danger and found the prospect frightening.
He is almost always seen in the company of the two other youngest Leafe Knights, Mannen and Shin. He shares a particularly close bond with Shin, as they are the closest in age. Hajime often takes on a protective, older-brother-like role, doing his best to comfort Shin when he is scared, even when Hajime is just as frightened himself. He is also very quick to befriend new people and is generally excited to meet those outside his small circle of fellow knights.
Unlike the older knights, Hajime, along with Mannen and Shin, has a unique background regarding his existence as a Leafe Knight. Sixteen years before the main story, during a previous battle to stop the Princess of Disaster, these three young knights died. Because there was no Prétear to replenish the source of life energy called Leafe, they could not be healed or revived directly. Instead, they were forced to be born again as ordinary human children, growing up without any memory of their past lives as knights.
