Description
Dr. Tarsan is the enigmatic scientist and creator of the giant robot Dangaioh. He is a brilliant but morally ambiguous figure whose actions set the entire story in motion. His background is largely mysterious, though he is established as a scientist of considerable genius, responsible for developing advanced psychic technology and mecha. His primary creation, Dangaioh, is a weapon designed to harness the powerful psychogenic waves of specially conditioned individuals. To this end, Dr. Tarsan kidnaps four young psychics from different planets: Mia Alice, Roll Kran, Lamba Nom, and Pai Thunder. He intentionally erases and reconditions their memories to mold them into compliant pilots, viewing them as living weapons and property rather than as people.

In terms of personality, Dr. Tarsan initially presents as a cold, calculating, and highly pragmatic individual. He is a scientist for hire, driven primarily by profit and the success of his work, showing little regard for the free will or emotional well-being of his four teenage subjects. He is open about his intention to sell the Dangaioh team to the highest bidder, which turns out to be Captain Galimos, the leader of the villainous Bunker Space Pirates. This mercenary streak defines his early actions, portraying him as a potential antagonist complicit in a scheme to deliver powerful psychic weapons into the hands of a galactic tyrant. However, his character is not static. After the four captives manage to escape his control, he undergoes a sudden but significant change of heart. The reasons for this shift are not deeply explored, but he abandons his deal with Galimos and decides to support the teenagers. From that point forward, he provides them with technical support and strategic guidance, effectively becoming their mission controller and a surrogate mentor figure, though the teenagers often bully him and do not fully trust him.

Dr. Tarsan's primary motivation transitions from pure profit to survival and ultimately to a form of redemption. After the Dangaioh team escapes, Galimos views Dr. Tarsan as having failed to deliver on a contract, placing Tarsan directly on the space pirates hit list. His change of heart is therefore partially a pragmatic decision forced by circumstance, as he must ally with the very people he betrayed to survive. However, his final actions suggest a deeper, genuine moral evolution. His role in the story is that of the catalyst and the engineer. He is the architect of the central conflict, creating both the heroes weapon and the circumstances that force them to fight. As the series progresses, he becomes the teams support from their mobile base, analyzing threats, coordinating their operations, and providing crucial intelligence.

Dr. Tarsan's key relationships are defined by his shifting allegiances. His relationship with the four main charactersMia, Roll, Lamba, and Paiis complex and begins with him as their captor and would-be seller. Following his change of heart, he transforms into their uneasy ally and mentor. The team regards him as a necessary partner and technical expert, but they never fully forget his initial betrayal, often ribbing him about his mercenary past. His most significant relationship outside the team is with his former cyborg assistant, Gil Berg. Gil Berg was one of Dr. Tarsan's earlier creations, made obsolete by the superior Dangaioh project. Feeling betrayed and discarded, Gil Berg joins forces with Captain Galimos and becomes the teams primary nemesis, driven by a personal vendetta against his creator. This makes Dr. Tarsan directly responsible for the creation of both the protagonists and their most personal antagonist.

Dr. Tarsan undergoes a notable development from an antagonist to a supporting hero. His initial plan to sell the children to space pirates is unequivocally villainous. However, his decision to free them and fight alongside them represents a clear, if sudden, redemption arc. This development culminates in the final episode, where his transformation is sealed by an act of self-sacrifice. After a devastating battle with Gil Berg, the Dangaioh is critically damaged and Dr. Tarsan's own ship is destroyed. Using his ship's last reserves of power, he activates a warp beam to teleport the four pilots to safety in their individual cockpits, saving their lives at the cost of his own. He is destroyed along with his ship, solidifying his final role as their savior. His notable abilities lie not in personal combat but in his exceptional scientific and engineering genius. He is the creator of the super-robot Dangaioh, the master of psychic conditioning technology used to create ESPers, and the developer of advanced teleportation technology known as the Warp Beam. His primary contributions to the story are technological, and his final act is the ultimate application of his own science to save the team he initially sought to exploit.
