Description
Gil Berg is a primary antagonist in the series, initially serving as a cyborg assistant to the scientist Dr. Tarsan. His background is rooted in a deep-seated resentment; he despises the four young psychics for being chosen over him as the intended pilots to be sold to the Bunker Space Pirates. This jealousy is further fueled by what appears to be a disdain for Mia Alice, whose calm and gentle demeanor seems to particularly irritate him.

Berg is characterized by his ruthless ambition and his willingness to sacrifice his own humanity to achieve power and prove his loyalty. When Dr. Tarsan betrays Captain Galimos, the leader of the Bunker, Berg performs a grisly act of fealty by ripping out his own left eye, a symbolic gesture that severs his last ties to his human past. This act cements his role as a devoted and savage enforcer for the Bunker. His personality is driven by a personal vendetta against the Dangaioh team, and he is determined to destroy them at any cost.

His role in the story is that of a recurring and persistent threat. In his first major action, he offers his services to Captain Galimos to recapture the escaped teenagers. He leads an assault on Earth, piloting his mecha, Bloody I, to wreak havoc on Tokyo. Though he is defeated by the newly formed Dangaioh and chooses to go down with his destroyed machine rather than accept mercy, he is later revealed to have been resurrected by Commander Dartilla.

Berg returns with a more cunning strategy, disguising himself as a masked mercenary named Skeleton. In this guise, he infiltrates a resistance group on the planet Latecia, manipulating them to set a trap for the Dangaioh team using Roll Kran as bait. He personally torments Mia Alice during this encounter, revealing the depth of his sadistic grudge. When his disguise is broken, he pilots the more powerful Gil Gear to attack the team, severely damaging both Dangaioh and Dr. Tarsan's ship. Despite the destruction of his mecha, Berg survives the final battle and is promoted to the rank of one of Captain Galimos' generals.

His key relationships are defined by conflict and subservience. He is initially subordinate to Dr. Tarsan but quickly pivots to serve Captain Galimos, proving his loyalty through self-mutilation. His relationship with the Dangaioh pilots, particularly Mia Alice and Roll Kran, is one of obsessive hatred. He uses Roll as bait specifically to lure Mia, suggesting a focused and personal malice toward her. His development follows a trajectory from a scorned assistant to a resurrected and cunning strategist, and finally to an elevated commander within the Bunker's hierarchy.

In terms of notable abilities, Gil Berg is a skilled mecha pilot. He operates several personal war machines, including the Bloody I and Bloody II, and later the Gil Gear. His primary threat is his cunning and relentless nature, often employing deceptive tactics like his Skeleton disguise to achieve his goals. As a cyborg, he possesses physical resilience, surviving the destruction of his mecha on multiple occasions.
