Description
Ra Devil is the central antagonist of Final Fantasy: Legend of the Crystals and the leader of the Black Moon. He is depicted as a powerful wizard with a cyborg-like appearance and red eyes, and he commands a group of agents who carry out his schemes. He makes his base on the Black Moon, a stronghold where he resides while waiting for the right moment to complete his plan.
His motivations revolve around a desire for ultimate power. Ra Devil seeks to gain the power of the Void and to acquire the powers of a god, and he views the four Elemental Crystals as the key to achieving this goal. His agents steal the crystals of Earth, Fire, and Water, leaving the Wind Crystal as the final piece he needs. He also steals the brain of Cid, hoping to use Cid's knowledge of the four crystals to his own advantage in carrying out his ambitions.
In the story, Ra Devil serves as the main antagonist whose actions set the conflict in motion. His theft of three of the four crystals creates the central problem facing the world, and his pursuit of the Wind Crystal brings him into direct opposition with the heroes who seek to protect it. His relationship with Cid is particularly important, as he targets the engineer specifically for the knowledge contained in his mind rather than engaging him as a direct rival. He also relies on the agents under his command to perform the actual thefts on his behalf.
As the story progresses, Ra Devil's ambitions reach their culmination. Once he succeeds in gathering the crystals he needs, he assumes his true form as Deathgyunos, a destructive godlike being. In this transformed state, he becomes the final threat that the heroes must face, with the Black Moon serving as the setting for the decisive confrontation.
In terms of abilities, Ra Devil is a formidable sorcerer whose magical strength is paired with a deliberate and calculating approach to achieving his goals. He commands the forces and resources of the Black Moon, and his most notable power is his transformation into Deathgyunos once all four Elemental Crystals are in his possession, an event that represents the fulfillment of his quest for godlike power.
