Description
In the 1983 anime film Golgo 13: The Professional, Gold is one half of a lethal assassin duo, partnered with a character named Silver. He is a minor antagonist, dispatched by the primary human adversary, a wealthy industrialist named Leonard Dawson, to eliminate the protagonist, the assassin-for-hire Golgo 13.

The background of Gold is one of extreme violence and survival. He and Silver were originally professional killers on death row for committing what are described as perverted murders. They were released from their sentence by Dawson under the condition that they hunt down and kill Golgo 13. Prior to their incarceration, they were part of a brutal government experiment that pitted forty of the world's best professional killers against two thousand guerrilla fighters in a jungle. Gold and Silver were the sole survivors of this ordeal. As a result of these past conflicts, Gold lost one of his eyes and an arm, which were replaced with a golden replica and a prosthetic gold arm, respectively. This, along with his preference for a stylish gold suit, defines his visual appearance.

Gold’s personality is defined by a feral and unhinged nature. He never speaks any dialogue, communicating only through shrieks, screams, and manic laughter. While trying to kill Golgo 13, he laughs like a lunatic, showing a clear enjoyment of the violence and a complete descent into chaos. His primary motivation is not financial or personal revenge but appears to be the sheer act of killing. As a boxed crook, his freedom is contingent on the successful assassination of Golgo 13, but his actions suggest the violent task is its own reward.

Within the story, Gold serves as a significant physical threat, representing an obstacle far more dangerous than the typical soldiers or mobsters sent after the protagonist. He and Silver are framed as formidable opponents, being two of the most memorable adversaries in the film due to their bizarre presence and sheer resilience. Their role is to confront Golgo 13 in a direct, brutal confrontation rather than through a complex plot. Gold’s key relationship is his symbiotic partnership with Silver. The two are an inseparable pair, forged in the fire of the jungle experiment, and they operate together with a singular, deadly purpose. Gold shows a moment of silent, emotional connection when he is killed; after his death, Silver weeps a single bloody tear.

Gold does not undergo any character development, remaining a static force of chaotic violence from his introduction to his death. However, his notable abilities make him a uniquely dangerous foe. Gold is essentially a superhuman fighter; he and Silver possess an almost supernatural resistance to injury. In the film’s climax, Gold is shot five times at point-blank range but gets back up and continues his attack, completely ignoring wounds that would be instantly fatal to a normal person. This durability, combined with his experience as a one-man army capable of killing hundreds, forces Golgo 13 to resort to extreme measures to finally stop him, ultimately requiring multiple gunshot wounds to the head to put him down.
