Description
The character known as Blade is the armored alter ego of Takaya Aiba, a young man who originally served as a crew member on the space exploration ship Argos. During a mission near Saturn, the crew encountered an alien force called the Radam, which captured them to be transformed into powerful warriors known as Tekkamen. Just before the brainwashing process was complete, Takaya was rescued by his father, Dr. Kozo Aiba, and escaped to Earth in a pod. This intervention meant his transformation was incomplete, granting him the ability to become Tekkaman Blade but with severe and worsening consequences.

Blade’s personality is shaped almost entirely by tragedy and a deep-seated desire for revenge. He is initially presented as a cold, distant, and highly aggressive individual who refuses to trust the Earth defense team, the Space Knights. Because of his painful past and his mission to kill his own transformed family, he deliberately withholds his real name and history, leading his new comrades to nickname him D-Boy, with the D standing for dangerous. As the story progresses, he gradually opens up, showing moments of deep anguish, vulnerability, and a fierce, selfless determination to protect the people he has come to care about, even as his own sanity and memories begin to fade.

His primary motivation is the complete annihilation of the Radam and the destruction of their base on the far side of the Moon. This mission is a deeply personal crusade, as the Radam have enslaved his family. The members he is forced to fight include his older brother Kengo, who became the leader Tekkaman Omega; his younger twin brother Shinya, who became his rival Tekkaman Evil; his sister Miyuki, who, like him, was an incomplete Tekkaman named Rapier; and his former mentor, Goddard, transformed into Tekkaman Axe.

In the story, Blade serves as Earth's only true line of defense against the Radam. He fights alongside the Space Knights, a small and initially underfunded organization led by the brilliant commander Heinrich von Freeman. Over time, Blade forms critical relationships with his teammates. He develops a deep bond and romantic connection with Aki Kisaragi, the pilot of the Blue Earth ship, who becomes his primary emotional support. He also forges a strong friendship with Noal Vereuse, another pilot who eventually pilots an artificial Tekkaman suit. His robotic support unit, Pegas, is equally vital, housing the shards of his damaged transformation crystal and allowing him to continue fighting.

The character undergoes profound development, which is intrinsically linked to the physical and mental decay caused by his powers. Because his transformation is incomplete, Blade can only maintain his armor for thirty minutes. Exceeding this limit causes him to lose his sanity and go on a berserk rampage. As the series continues, his cellular structure begins to break down from the strain of repeated transformations. In a desperate move to overcome this, he evolves into a more powerful Blaster mode. While this stops his body from deteriorating, it transfers the damage to his brain, causing him to lose a portion of his memories every single time he transforms. By the final battle, he has sacrificed almost all of his past, acting on pure instinct and hatred alone, and is left a hero who has saved the world but cannot remember his own identity or the loved ones for whom he fought.

As Tekkaman Blade, he possesses a suite of formidable abilities. His primary weapon is the Tek Lancer, a double-bladed spear that can be separated into two swords or thrown as projectiles, which he retrieves using a wire called the Tek Wire from his left arm. He also carries a small shield on his back. One of his signature attacks is Crash Intrude, where he charges through an enemy while covered in energy. His ultimate attack is Voltekka, a devastating beam of anti-matter energy fired from launchers that emerge from his shoulders. This attack changes color to green when powered up by the Blaster form. In his Blaster evolution, his armor becomes more elaborate with wing-like structures, and his already immense power is amplified to its absolute peak, capable of destroying an entire Radam mothership.
