David A. Thomas is an American voice actor and painter also known professionally as Dave Thomas or under the alias Robert Matthews. He has been active in the entertainment industry since 1978 and is recognized for his distinctive deep, gravelly vocal delivery. Thomas is best known to anime audiences for his lead role in the English dub of the science fiction series Tekkaman Blade. In that production, which was released in North America under the title Teknoman Blade, he provided the voice for the protagonist Blade, also known as Nick Carter. He performed this role for the full-length international English dub of the series, distinguishing it from a separate United States broadcast dub that featured a different actor for the same character.

Beyond this signature role, Thomas has contributed to several other notable anime and animated productions. Under the pseudonym Robert Matthews, he voiced the character Gren in the acclaimed series Cowboy Bebop. He also used the same alias to provide the voice of Shiro in the landmark 1987 anime film Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honnêamise. His animation voice work additionally includes the character Farmer Don on the Nickelodeon series As Told By Ginger.

In addition to his work in animation, Thomas has an extensive career in video game voice acting. He is recognized for the role of The Sorrow in the critically acclaimed title Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, as well as its expanded version, Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, for which he also voiced Premier Nikita Khrushchev. His other prominent video game roles include Echo in Red Faction II, General Thunderbolt Ross in The Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction, and the Barbarian character class in Diablo II. Further credits include additional voices in Enter the Matrix and Freedom Fighters, as well as roles in games such as Chaos Legion, Fight Club, and Gabriel Knight 3: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned.
