Description
Morotoh, who transforms into Tekkaman Lance, is a supporting antagonist in the Tekkaman Blade series. Originally a crew member of the Earth exploration ship Argos, he was part of the expedition that discovered a dormant Radam vessel in the rings of Saturn. Upon entering the alien ship, he and the rest of the crew were captured by the Radam's conversion pods and forcibly transformed into Tekkamen, becoming foot soldiers of the alien force. Unlike the protagonist Takaya Aiba, who was rescued before his conversion was complete, Morotoh underwent the full process. As a result, his human consciousness was suppressed, and he became a loyal servant of the Radam, specifically operating under the command of Tekkaman Evil. Among the Radam-controlled Tekkamen, he is regarded as the most heavily mutated and evolved, his form showing more pronounced physical alterations than former comrades such as Tekkaman Axe or Tekkaman Sword.
In terms of personality, fully converted Tekkamen like Morotoh display little of their original humanity. He acts as a ruthless and efficient combatant, driven by the Radam's hive-minded directives rather than personal ambition or emotion. His motivation is simple: to eliminate Tekkaman Blade and any other resistance, thereby clearing the way for the Radam's invasion of Earth. He does not question orders or show mercy, functioning as a cold instrument of the alien will.
Morotoh's role in the story is as one of the primary enforcers sent to Earth after the initial Tekkamen, Dagger and Evil, fail to stop Blade. He arrives alongside Tekkaman Axe, Tekkaman Sword, and Tekkaman Evil as part of a coordinated assault on the Space Knights. During this attack, the group corners Tekkaman Rapier, Blade's younger sister, who self-destructs in a desperate attempt to destroy them. While Morotoh survives that explosion, he is later confronted directly by Blade. In their battle, Blade manages to kill him, marking him as one of the first of the new Tekkamen opponents to fall.
In terms of key relationships, Morotoh serves Tekkaman Evil, the field commander of the Radam forces on Earth. He works in tandem with Axe and Sword, forming a strike team that complements Evil's own abilities. There is no indication of personal bonds between them; they are merely allies of convenience under the Radam's control. His primary adversarial relationship is with Tekkaman Blade, whom he views as a target to be eliminated. As a former crewmate of the Argos, Morotoh shares a tragic connection with Blade, Evil, and the other converted Tekkamen, all of whom were once members of the same space expedition before the Radam twisted them.
Morotoh does not experience any character development or redemption arc. He remains an antagonist throughout his appearances and is killed while still under the Radam's influence. His end serves to illustrate the grim fate of the Argos crew and the ruthlessness of the Radam's conversion process.
Regarding his notable abilities, Tekkaman Lance is a powerful combatant. His primary weapon is the Tech Lancer, a glaive-like polearm that he wields in close-quarters combat. This weapon is distinct from the traditional two-bladed lance used by earlier Tekkamen. Additionally, he is equipped with a Volteca launcher located at the base of his neck, which he can use to fire devastating energy blasts. As a complete and fully evolved Radam Tekkaman, he possesses the standard enhanced strength, speed, durability, and flight capabilities common to all Tekkamen, but his advanced mutation suggests a higher degree of physical adaptation and combat potency compared to less evolved variants, making him a formidable opponent even for Blade.
