Description
Colonel Kurtz is a senior officer in the Jerra Regular Army, commanding a military unit during the ongoing war against the rebel Negsrom forces on the planet Jerra. He is a mature adult man with gray hair and dark eyes, and he carries himself with the authority expected of a high-ranking commander. Kurtz is initially dismissive of the genetically engineered super-soldier Geist when the latter is assigned to his unit, viewing him as an unwelcome and potentially uncontrollable element. As he witnesses Geist’s devastating combat effectiveness firsthand, his dismissiveness shifts to jealousy over the soldier’s superior abilities, and that jealousy eventually gives way to outright terror. Convinced that Geist is not a valuable asset but a dangerous and unpredictable menace that must be eliminated for the greater good, Kurtz takes decisive action against him. He sets a trap by activating a specialized combat android, hoping to use it to kill Geist. This conflict defines Kurtz’s role in the story: he is a secondary antagonist who represents the military establishment’s fear of the very weapon it created. His motivations are rooted in a desire for control and the preservation of order, even if that order means destroying the most powerful soldier on the battlefield. Kurtz undergoes little personal development; his attitude hardens from suspicion to active hostility, and he acts on that hostility with a calculated but ultimately unsuccessful attempt on Geist’s life. His notable abilities lie not in personal combat but in his command authority, strategic positioning, and access to advanced military technology such as the android he deploys. His key relationship is with Geist, marked by mutual distrust and culminating in direct confrontation. In the end, Kurtz fails to neutralize the threat, underscoring the theme that the unleashed violence of the M.D.S. program cannot be contained by conventional military hierarchy.
