Description
Aya Shizaki is a minor supporting character in the anime and manga series Saki Episode of Side A. She is a student at Achiga Girls Academy and is in her first year of middle school. Aya has short dark brown hair and brown eyes, and her birthday is January 30.

In her background, Aya was a member of the local children's mahjong club at Achiga Girls Academy during her elementary school years. This club included several other girls who would later form the core of the academy's competitive mahjong team, such as Shizuno Takakamo, Ako Atarashi, and Kuro Matsumi. However, as the members grew older and went to different schools, the club was eventually disbanded. Following the dissolution of the club, Aya, along with fellow former members Sakurako Gibbard and Hina Yamatani, continued to play three-player mahjong to maintain their interest in the game. She also made efforts to contact older former members in an attempt to revive the club's activities.

Aya does not serve as a player on the main mahjong team when it is later reorganized. Instead, her role in the story is to provide support and encouragement for the team as they compete in tournaments. She appears alongside her friends Sakurako Gibbard and Hina Yamatani, with whom she is often seen spending time. Together, they cheer for the Achiga team during matches, such as before the final eight games, where they watch the televised broadcast of the competition.

Her key relationships are primarily with Sakurako Gibbard and Hina Yamatani, as they share a history from the children's club and continue to be a close trio. Through her support of the team, she maintains a connection to the main players, including Shizuno Takakamo and Ako Atarashi, who were her peers in the original club.

Aya does not undergo a significant character development arc, as she remains a peripheral figure whose primary function is to act as a spectator and supporter of the main characters. Similarly, she is not depicted as having any special mahjong abilities, as she is not a competing member of the team. Her role is defined by her history with the other characters and her ongoing, enthusiastic support for their efforts to reach the national championships.
