Kotetsu Serizawa is a senior officer in the Earth Defense Force during the Garmillas War. Born in 2144, he is 55 years old when the Yamato mission begins. His early career is marked by a fateful decision in 2191: during humanity's first contact with the Garmillas near Pluto, Serizawa ordered an attack on the Garmillan fleet, an action that sparked the Great Garmillas War and brought Earth to the brink of extinction.
