Description
Kaguya is a central character from the Shining Hearts narrative, initially introduced as a mysterious girl who is discovered unconscious on the shores of Windaria Island by the protagonist Rick and his companions. She is a human girl of sixteen years of age with long black hair and a height of 160 centimeters. Her attire resembles Okinawan traditional clothing, which, while wrapped around her body, has a high degree of exposure, leaving her shoulders and back uncovered. She wears a pendant containing a stone known as a spirit stone around her neck.
Upon being found, Kaguya is in a weakened state and has lost not only her memories but also all of her emotions, leaving her with a mechanical and emotionless demeanor. As she receives care and interacts with Rick and the other inhabitants of the island, she slowly begins to recover her feelings. Her personality evolves considerably throughout this process. She starts as a silent character, but as her emotions return, she becomes more playful, curious, and somewhat shy. By the time she fully recovers her memories, she exhibits a more mature bearing. One of her most notable personality traits is that she is a glutton with a great love for bread, particularly the loaves baked by Rick and his friends at the bakery.
Kaguya's role in the story is intrinsically linked to the world of Euphoria itself. Whenever she regains an emotion, a shining key appears. When this key is sunk into the lake, a new island emerges in the world of Euphoria, which serves as a sanctuary for people with wounded hearts who have been summoned there as wanderers. These events draw the attention of pirates who seek her pendant, leading to conflict. As the story progresses, she regains darker emotions such as anger and hatred. This causes her to temporarily ally with the pirate Isaac, who had been targeting her, with the intention of ending the world. However, she relents from this course of action after being persuaded by Rick's party and understanding the sincere feelings they put into their bread.
Kaguya's true identity is complex. She is, in fact, a temporary personality that exists before the awakening of another entity named Sakuya, and she serves as the past form of Maxima Enfield. She holds the role of an arbiter or adjuster of the world and is a divine spirit or a god, similar to characters from other installments of the wider series. The world of Euphoria itself was born from the combination of Sakuya's mental image with others, meaning much of the reality Kaguya inhabits is a product of delusion. Her appearance in Windaria was caused by the breaking of a seal that had been placed on her. Her awakening into Sakuya would normally mean that Euphoria would become unnecessary and be destroyed, but it is left to exist due to Kaguya's own wish.
Key relationships for Kaguya include Rick, who found her and, along with his companions, helps her recover her emotions and memories. She also has a strong connection to Isaac, whose actions set the story in motion and who later becomes a temporary ally. Finally, her destiny is intertwined with Maxima, an emissary from the phantom world, with whom she departs for the far side of the moon at the conclusion of the main story to fulfill her mission. She ultimately returns to be with Rick in her individual ending. Her notable ability revolves around the manifestation of the shining keys, which have the power to reshape the world of Euphoria by creating new islands, a process directly tied to the recovery of her own emotions.
