Description
Quilt is a character in the anime and manga series Baku Tech! Bakugan. He is an Aquos brawler whose partner Bakugan is Saint Aquas, and he belongs to the Bakugan Dojo alongside figures such as Master Shimo and Tatsuma. Though he appears to be a young boy of about ten years old, he is actually 150 years old, which makes him the eldest human character in the entire Bakugan franchise. He is described as a legendary and powerful brawler and is said to be ten times stronger than the brawler Zakuro.
In terms of background, Quilt is known as the teacher, or sensei, of Master Shimo, placing him at a high level of authority within the Bakugan community. He also acts as a Bakutech sage, a guardian figure who watches over BakuTech users so that they do not become bad. His considerable age and experience give him a long view of the brawling world, and his role as a sage involves evaluating, guiding, and protecting the next generation of brawlers. He also serves as the judge of the preliminary round of the BakuTech Coliseo.
Personality-wise, Quilt is measured and observant, preferring to test others rather than simply defeat them. During his two on-screen battles, he intentionally surrenders after losing both, doing so only because he is testing the character and potential of his opponent. This reflects a mentor-like temperament: he is more interested in understanding a brawler's growth and resolve than in winning for its own sake. He also possesses unusual abilities beyond standard brawling, including healing powers, which further set him apart as an almost mystical figure.
In the story, Quilt first appears in the sixth episode of the anime, where he remains hidden behind the curtains of Harubaru's testing area and speaks from the shadows. He gives Team Dragaon a specialized Bakuthlon test with different conditions for each member. He finally reveals himself in the eighth episode, when he brawls against Harubaru. During that match, he captures two Gate Cards but ultimately ends the brawl after witnessing Flare Dragaon evolve into Gren Dragaon, effectively conceding the battle. He also appears in a flashback involving Master Shimo and Master Jyou, and later reappears in the twenty-fifth episode after revealing that he had been disguised as Zakuro when interacting with Koh Grif.
His key relationships include his student Master Shimo, whom he trained, and his connection to Master Jyou, another prominent master from the same generation. His brawl with Harubaru establishes him as an evaluator of the younger protagonist, and his use of a Zakuro disguise creates a notable link to Zakuro as well. In terms of development, Quilt's arc moves from a mysterious, hidden figure to a revealed sage who tests the main characters, and it concludes with him passing away at the end of the series. After his passing, Zakuro takes his place as a Bakutech sage, indicating that Quilt's departure marks a changing of the guard within the Bakugan world.
As for abilities, Quilt fights with the Aquos attribute and relies on his partner Bakugan Saint Aquas. His skill as a brawler is considerable enough that he is regarded as legendary, and the claim that he is ten times stronger than Zakuro underscores his immense power. In addition to his combat abilities, his strange healing powers demonstrate that his talents extend beyond ordinary brawling, fitting his role as a guardian and sage who oversees the well-being of BakuTech users.
