Description
Mimi's Dad is a supporting character in the anime Shimajirō no Wow! and a resident of Challenge Island. His name is Sota Midorihara, and he is the father of Mimi-Lynne (Mimirin). He runs the family flower shop, Flower Shop Midorihara, together with his wife, and they live as a family of three with their daughter. Prior to opening the flower shop, Sota worked as a firefighter, but he later changed careers to pursue his long-held dream of operating a flower shop.
In terms of personality, Sota is an exceptionally gentle and affectionate father who dotes on his daughter. He is known for being somewhat overprotective and worry-prone, especially when it comes to Mimi-Lynne. He tends to fuss over her safety and well-being, and on occasion he has been known to secretly follow her when she goes on errands, unable to hide his concern. Despite his anxious nature, he is warm-hearted and approachable, and he rarely raises his voice or scolds his daughter. When he does need to correct her, such as when she behaves recklessly in a dangerous situation, he can be firm, but he quickly softens and apologizes afterward. This mix of indulgence and protectiveness defines his parental style.
Sota's main motivation is the happiness and safety of his family, particularly his daughter. He takes pride in his work at the flower shop and enjoys making customers happy with flowers. His career change from firefighter to florist reflects a desire to build a life centered around his family and a personal passion. He is also deeply connected to his community and maintains a close friendship with Shimajiro's father, Shimataro, whom he calls by a familiar nickname, indicating a long-standing bond from their younger days. The two fathers share fond memories, including having discovered a hidden lake together during their childhood.
Within the story, Sota appears as a background but recurring adult figure. His role is primarily to provide a stable, caring home environment for Mimi-Lynne and to model positive family dynamics. He is often seen working in the flower shop or spending time with his family at home. His interactions with the main child characters are supportive and kind, and he sometimes helps out when the children need guidance or encouragement.
Sota's development over the course of the series is subtle but present. His transition from firefighter to florist is a notable life change that is acknowledged in the narrative, showing his willingness to follow his dreams. His relationship with Mimi-Lynne also matures as he learns to balance his protective instincts with allowing her to grow more independent.
As for notable abilities or traits, Sota is skilled in floristry and the operation of a small business. He is also physically capable from his time as a firefighter, and he is known to be handy around the house. His most defining trait, however, is his emotional availability and his deep, sometimes comically exaggerated, devotion to his daughter. He is not a character with special powers or extraordinary skills; his strength lies in his steady, loving presence within the family and community.
