TV-Series
Description
Jack is a notable character from the anime, recognized by his missing left eye and a cybernetic arm, which are physical markers of a transformative past. He leads a group known as the Desert Wolves and operates under the alias One-Eyed Jack, also referred to as Joker in some versions. His personal Monsuno partner is named Freedomstriker.
Originally, Jack was an Elite agent for the organization called S.T.O.R.M. During his time there, he underwent a procedure that implanted cybernetic devices in his brain, granting him the unique telepathic ability to understand and communicate with Monsuno. His primary duty was to subdue and tame wild Monsuno. A pivotal event reshaped his entire life when he was tasked with taming the creature that would later become Freedomstriker. The Monsuno lashed out against him, causing the loss of his eye and limb, an event that fundamentally altered his perspective. This traumatic encounter led him to realize the creature resisted not out of malice, but because it despised being controlled. Consequently, Jack abandoned his former life, believing that all Monsuno deserved to be free from human exploitation. He became a vagabond preacher of liberation, dedicated to a self-proclaimed crusade to return Monsuno to their primordial essence and break the chains of servitude he felt humanity had placed upon them.
Motivated by this radical philosophy, Jack is a wandering fanatic who travels the globe with his Desert Wolves. His role in the story is that of an anti-hero and occasional antagonist who exists outside the main factional conflicts. While he and his group use Eklipse Cores to operate, they are not true members of the Eklipse organization, having purchased the technology for their own purposes. Jack fights against anyone he perceives as oppressors, whether they are S.T.O.R.M., Eklipse agents, or even Team Core-Tech. Despite his opposition to the protagonists at times, his motives are not purely evil; he genuinely believes in the righteousness of his liberation cause. This leads him to form temporary alliances when their goals align, such as breaking into Eklipse Headquarters to confront Dr. Klipse. He notably revealed the existence of Monsuno to the wider world by having Freedomstriker attack a news crew, forcibly bringing the conflict into the public eye.
Jack maintains a key relationship with his Monsuno, Freedomstriker. Due to his telepathic implants, their bond is unique, allowing Jack to read the creature's mind directly. He has stated that Freedomstriker acts more independently than other Monsuno and is not under his direct control, suggesting a partnership rather than a master-servant dynamic. He also acts as the leader of the Desert Wolves, directing his followers Pozo and Becca in his liberation missions.
Throughout the first season, Jack is portrayed as a determined and powerful fighter whose fanaticism sometimes clouds his judgment. However, his development takes a tragic turn later in the series. After being captured and having his cybernetic implants reprogrammed by the villain Charlemagne, Jack was forced to obey commands against his will. He was ordered to hunt down and kill a character named Master Ey. Despite his internal resistance, Jack was compelled to commit the act. Although the technology controlling him was subsequently disabled, freeing him from Charlemagne's command, the damage was done. Master Ey was dead, and the removal of Jack's control also stripped him of his ability to communicate telepathically with Monsuno. Overcome with guilt for the murder he was forced to commit, Jack abandoned his crusade, disbanded the Desert Wolves, and left to seek atonement, disappearing from the narrative.
In terms of notable abilities, Jack possesses the mental capacity to understand the thoughts and feelings of Monsuno, though this power was ultimately lost due to the tampering with his implants. As a combatant, he is a skilled Monsuno commander who pilots Freedomstriker in battle. This Monsuno is capable of executing special attacks such as Burning Thunder, Sonic Howl, and Terror Strike. Jack is also a capable physical fighter and strategist, having managed to hold his own against trained elites and even temporarily exerted control over the powerful Monsuno Lock when it was in a vulnerable and corrupted state.
