Description
Chase is the main protagonist of his series, a fifteen-year-old boy whose life is defined by the disappearance of his father, the legendary scientist Jeredy Suno. This event serves as the primary catalyst for his journey, setting him on a path to master the ancient and powerful creatures known as Monsuno. Before vanishing, his father left for him a special gift: a fully-loaded Core containing Lock, one of the first Monsuno ever reanimated. Chase’s background is one of sudden responsibility, as he must learn to become a skilled Controller while navigating a world where multiple factions seek to exploit Monsuno power for their own agendas.
In terms of personality, Chase is characterized by an abundance of confidence and charisma, which allows him to function as a natural and inherent leader. He is inherently heroic, clever, and loves a challenge, often approaching difficult situations with a risk-taking, adrenaline-seeking attitude. Despite his bravery, he is deeply genuine and courageous, carrying a significant emotional weight due to his father’s absence and his mother’s later disappearance. He has a strong protective instinct, feeling a deep responsibility for his friends and partners, and does not want anyone placed in harm's way on his behalf. His character also shows a materialistic side, as he is sometimes seen requesting new gadgets and Cores from his father to gain an advantage, though this is balanced by his primary mission. An unusual quirk attributed to him is an open interest in the erotic romance literary genre.
Chase’s primary motivation throughout the story is the search for his missing father, Jeredy Suno, a goal that drives him forward even as he learns that the fate of the world may depend on his actions. He builds a team of like-minded Monsuno adepts, known as Core-Tech, to take on forces intent on exploiting Monsuno for evil purposes while he pursues his family and the mysteries of the Monsuno’s true purpose. Over the course of the series, his mission expands from simply finding his father to saving his mother from the villainous Hand of Destiny and eventually working alongside former enemies to maintain global stability.
In his role within the story, Chase is the central figure around whom the narrative revolves. He leads his team, which includes his two best friends, Bren and Jinja, as well as later allies like the monk Beyal and the mysterious Dax. His key relationships are foundational to his development. His bond with his primary Monsuno partner, Lock, is particularly significant; they must learn to coexist, trust one another, and form a perfect partnership through a process known as syncing to overcome threats. His relationship with his father is a source of both motivation and occasional frustration, as Jeredy often appears and disappears, leaving Chase with new tools or information. Throughout the series, there are subtle hints of romantic feelings towards his friend Jinja.
Chase undergoes considerable development as the series progresses. Initially, he is a young man coping with abandonment, but he quickly rises to meet the challenge of being a hero. He learns that he cannot succeed alone; in a key moment, he nearly separates from his friends but is convinced that they make a great team, reinforcing the value of trust and cooperation. He struggles with his connection to Lock, at one point experiencing a serious rift where Lock runs away and another where Lock goes wild during battle, forcing Chase to confront his own doubts and ultimately sync with his partner on a deeper level to save the day. He also develops his leadership skills, planning full-scale assaults and complex traps against powerful enemies like Commandant Marshall Charlemagne.
As a Monsuno Controller, Chase possesses notable abilities centered on his use of a device called a Core. He is skilled at spinning out his Monsuno to battle and calling them back with the command Return. His primary and most powerful partner is Lock, a large, incredibly strong Monsuno often described as resembling a polar bear or a hybrid of a polar bear, gorilla, and tiger. Over his journey, he also acquires and controls several other Monsuno, including Evo, a swan or eagle-like creature given to him by his father, and Nightstone, a cat or jackal-like hybrid, among others like Babeon, Deepsix, and Batteram. In later conflicts, he gains access to more powerful forms such as Hyper Lock, Hyper Driftblade, Hyper Deadfall, and Hyper Ironjaw, demonstrating his growth and mastery as a Controller.
