Description
Gazelle, whose real name is Jiro Kinjo, is introduced as a young man living on the island of Iwato Jima, where he operates as the head of a small courier agency. He is almost always seen in the company of his two close friends and business partners, Pippo and Han Juno. On the surface, Gazelle often presents himself as someone who is messing around or not taking things seriously, but he is consistently portrayed as being very smart and possessing a keen instinct for getting a good deal out of any situation. His outward demeanor is frequently casual, but he has a sharp mind that he uses to assess circumstances and make calculated moves for his own benefit and for the protection of his home.

Gazelle has a complex personal history rooted in the unusual events that have defined Iwato Jima. His father is a local musician named Kazuyuki Kinjo, a man deeply involved in the movement for Okinawan independence. This background has contributed to Gazelle's own strong feelings about the island, including a general distrust of outsiders. However, this same family connection has also created a rift, as Gazelle has denied being part of his family due to his father's actions. He harbors a deep internal conflict regarding the treatment of the protagonist, Ao Fukai. While Gazelle has at times treated Ao poorly in the past, he also feels genuine sorrow for how the boy has been ostracized his entire life for events that were not his fault, specifically the disappearance of his mother, Eureka, and the subsequent calamities attributed to her. He rejects the way his own father's generation has made Ao a scapegoat for the island's suffering, a stance that becomes a primary catalyst for his actions.

Gazelle’s primary motivation shifts from simple entrepreneurial survival to a more active desire to protect Iwato Jima and right the wrongs he sees being committed. His role in the story begins when he and his partners are hired to smuggle a mysterious bracelet, which ultimately draws Ao into a conflict with a G-Monster. He facilitates the chain of events that leads to Ao piloting the Nirvash for the first time. After Ao and the IFO are recruited by the international organization Generation Bleu, Gazelle, Pippo, and Han stow away aboard the ship Triton. Traveling to Switzerland, they confront the head of Generation Bleu, Christophe Blanc. By demonstrating their knowledge of Quartz and its collection activities, Gazelle negotiates a cooperative working relationship with the powerful organization, securing a position for his small group within the larger structure of Generation Bleu. From this new vantage point, Gazelle continues to operate with a degree of independence, carrying out missions for Blanc and investigating the hidden truths of the world. He becomes particularly interested in the secrets left behind by the enigmatic being known as Truth, which drive him to uncover what lies beneath the surface of Generation Bleu's headquarters.

Gazelle’s most significant relationship is with Ao Fukai. While their interactions are not always friendly, and Gazelle can be abrasive, he becomes one of Ao’s key allies, taking significant risks to help him. In a pivotal moment, when Ao is being held captive by the islanders who blame him for their misfortunes, Gazelle crashes his vehicle through a fence to free him, directly confronting his own father for using Ao as a scapegoat. This act demonstrates his willingness to put himself in danger to support the younger pilot. He also develops a noticeable romantic interest in his commanding officer at Generation Bleu, Rebecca Halstrom, and frequently makes advances toward her. His loyalty to his partners, Pippo and Han, is absolute, and the trio functions as a single, effective unit throughout the series. As the story progresses, Gazelle matures from a local small-time smuggler into a player on the global political stage, using his intelligence and resourcefulness to navigate the complex conspiracies surrounding Generation Bleu, the Secrets, and the Scub Coral.

Gazelle does not pilot an IFO or possess any supernatural powers. His notable abilities lie in his intelligence, pragmatism, and negotiation skills. He consistently demonstrates an ability to assess a bad situation and find an angle to turn it to his advantage. This is most evident when he successfully leverages his knowledge of Quartz to secure a powerful position within Generation Bleu despite having no official standing. His investigative skills also prove valuable, as he and his friends conduct their own inquiries into the mysteries of the Coral Relic and the true nature of the world. In an alternate history created by the actions of Ao, Gazelle ultimately becomes a political figure, leading the Okinawan delegates in negotiations with Japan to secure the island's complete independence, a culmination of the ideals he hinted at throughout the main narrative.
